Since you stand to loose all the food I would call a service tech ASAP. But here are the most common reasons for the problem you have.
Cause 1 The Evaporator Coils are Frosted Over
The defrost heater assembly turns on a few times throughout the day to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the defrost heater assembly is defective, frost will continue to accumulate on the evaporator coils, and the coils will become plugged with frost. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, the airflow through the coils will be restricted, causing the refrigerator not to cool. Check the evaporator coils to determine if they are frosted over. If the evaporator coils are frosted over, test each component of the defrost system.
Cause 2 Evaporator Fan Motor
The evaporator fan motor draws cold air over the evaporator coils and circulates it throughout the freezer. If the evaporator fan is not working, the freezer or refrigerator will not cool adequately. To determine if the evaporator fan motor is defective, try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, replace the fan motor. Additionally, if the motor is unusually noisy, replace it. Finally, if the motor does not run at all, use a multimeter to test the motor windings for continuity. If the windings do not have continuity, replace the evaporator fan motor..
Cause 3 Damper Control Assembly
The air damper control opens and closes to let the proper amount of cold air into the refrigerator compartment. If the damper does not open properly, it won't let enough cold air into the refrigerator. Check the damper control to determine if it is broken or stuck closed.
You either have an iced up evaporator coil (found in freezer) due to a failure in the defrost system: evaporator defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or a failed evaporator fan motor.
If your evaporator motor is not working, you are so correct. The air circulated in the refrigerator is due to the evaporator motor fan. If left to operate without a fan to provide a heat load for your compressor, it could cause your compressor to fail. Your problem is most likely the defrost sensor inside the cover of your evaporator. It is probably stuck open and will not put power to your evaporator fan. Take you model number to Searspartsdirect.com and find the defrost sensor for your refrigerator and replace it.
Hope this helps
All the big cooling happens inside freezer compartment. Freezer gives little cool air to fridge compartment. Now when the vent blocks that little cold air cannot go into fridge compartment. Thus your freezer works good but not fridge compartment. Milk goes bad but frozen meet keeps good.....
Vent freeze up either due to defrost problemt, defrost drain line problem, Evaporator fan problem or even can be your damper motor not opening due to unit failure or frozen damper door.
Boris, we are sorry to hear that your Refrigerator is not cooling. We are not technicians, we do not have technical training, or technicians here in customer service. We can offer troubleshooting. Unfortunately, we do not have the provisions to assist you with detailed technical advice, provide repair manuals, tell you how to take it apart, or advise on which parts need to be changed to repair the unit. We do not offer repair assistance in customer service. If you are unable to resolve an issue on your own, we can only recommend service. If you would like for us to schedule service for you, can you please email us your address, phone number, the model and serial number, the website you were contacted on, Fixya, your review ID, and date of purchase to [email protected].
Unplug the refrigerator and remove the contents of the freezer. Then remove air tower and the inside back panel inside the back of the freezer. Disconnect the evaporator fan and replace with the new fan motor. W10189703 Evaporator Fan Motor I am here if you have questionsm Thanks Sea Breeze
Well there a couple things you can check. Pull away from wall and remove the lower cover over the compressor. Either the compressor is stopping on and off too much or the evaporator fan or the condenser fan is stopping while you do not know it. Tell me how hot the top of compressor is. We may have a bad motor starter and start capacitor along with overload. Let me know what you find and I may very well get you going again, Sea Breeze
