It won't do straight stitch?
Take the needle out... see if it is moving the fabric when you press on the presser foot. If it is not, then you need to raise the feet (it's under the accessory box/table face. If it does move the fabric. Make sure your machine is set to Zig Zag. again without needle... sew. Does the needle bar move? change to straight stitch, does the needle bar move? If it does I think you have the wrong size needle. If it does not, I'm afraid your plastic machine has broken... take it in for repair.

SOURCE: Ingenuity-needle hits pressure foot when zigzag stitching

Reduce the width of the zig zag as a short term fix, but it seems that you either have the incorrect foot attached, or the ZZ width setting needs adjusting.

If, when the needle is set to be centred, is it actually slightly off-centre ?? You may do worse than have a service done, explaining the issue you face as well as a general go over.

As this was posted some time ago, I hope it has been resolved for you.

I have a Bernina 930 record, zigzag stitch it misses some zigzag stitches & does straight stitches

If your Bernina 930 record sewing machine is experiencing issues with zigzag stitches and straight stitches, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
  1. Check the needle: Ensure that the needle is properly inserted and not bent or dull. Replace the needle if necessary, making sure to use the correct needle type and size for the fabric you are sewing.
  2. Adjust the stitch width and length: Verify that the stitch width and length settings are properly adjusted for the desired zigzag stitch. Refer to your machine's user manual for instructions on how to adjust these settings correctly.
  3. Clean and lubricate the machine: A build-up of lint or lack of lubrication can affect the machine's performance. Clean the bobbin area and other accessible parts of the machine using a soft brush or lint brush. Apply a drop of sewing machine oil to the recommended areas as specified in the user manual.
  4. Check the tension: Improper tension can lead to skipped stitches. Ensure that the upper thread tension is properly adjusted for the fabric and thread you are using. Consult the user manual for guidance on adjusting the tension correctly.
  5. Test with different fabrics and threads: Try sewing on different fabrics using different types of thread to determine if the issue is specific to certain materials. This will help identify whether the problem lies with the machine or the materials being used.
  6. Have the machine serviced: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to have your Bernina 930 record serviced by a professional. There could be underlying mechanical issues that require expert attention.
It's important to note that the Bernina 930 record is a vintage sewing machine, and finding a qualified technician with experience working on older models may be beneficial if further repairs or adjustments are needed.

Skipping right side stitch on a zigzag stitch, so when i am running a zigzag stitch when the needle goes through the fabric and comes back up it pulls the stitch back with it ??

check your bobbin and is the needle good and sharp and the proper length.make sure its not bentthe tiniest defectt n a needle can mess up any stitch.
how does it work on regular stitching.
most problems with machines involve.bad needles incorrect threading of bobbin or spool, dirty bobbin, incorrect needle.
it sounds like the needle isnt catching the bobbin thread.
hope this helps

Can I go from straight stitches to zigzag stiches and back in the same seam?

Hi Susie,

I can't tell whether you mean straight stitching and then turning your work 180 degrees to stitch atop the straight stitches in zig-zag, or continuing around the corner of your straight stitched side using zig-zag. But you can do either. You can mix up straight and zig-zag stitching at will.

Just ease up to a stop, ensuring the needle is positioned down inside the work when you stop.
Lift the foot.
Adjust to your desired stitch setting.
Lower the foot.
Turn the wheel toward you manually to ensure the stitches will be placed where you want them, and
Slowly engage the power again (via foot or thigh lever).

Hope this helps.

Stitch length for zig zag satin binding 8mm equals what number?

Neat zigzag stitches are usually achieved at "2.5" or below.
Closed up zigzag stitches (close together) are referred to as a
satin stitch its likely you will want to set for 1.5 or at most 2. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/user-manuals/3116-singer-parts-SEWING+MACHINE-manual Look for page 40 in the owners book or scroll down and if you see numbers not on the page but on the scroll bar look for 47. It has some great pitures that can help you out.

Buttonhole making instructions from the manual of the Singer Simple do not seem to be accurate. The tension is incorrect and the machine is only sewing down one side without creating the satin stitch/...

Some machines will start out by sewing a straight stitch all the way around the buttonhole area first and then will zigzag/satin stitch along the sides. Bar tacks will be the last stitches sewn - hope this helps!

Machine will not zigzag

The guy is right, dust kills the moving parts. try oiling the shaft that holds the needle up about 1/2 way and then run on straight stitch with no thread to work in oil, do this several times till you feel that it runs smoothly and you have a little movement side to side as this is necessary for your zig-zag. if that does not work it may be a cam or belt in the top part that needs replacing and you will need the repair to tell you that. I asked them to give me a quote before any work was done so I knew what I was up against. I love my machine so it was worth the 200.00 to get the parts replaced. It will sew anything cause it is a older model with metal rather than plastic parts. hope this helps good luck

How do I change the stiches?

You can do all of these stitches by using different combinations of your stitch selector, stitch width and stitch feed knobs, for instance, on the panel I can see on your machine:

http://www.jo-ann.com/joann/product/images/52659.jsp?CATID=cat3122&PRODID=prd11333

Stitches 1, 2 & 3 are straight stitches, centered, left and right. Really basic stuff, not different stitches at all. 4,5,6,7 & 8 are zig-zag stitches of different widths. 9 is the widest zig-zag (no. 8) on a finer stitch length, etc...

I think you should try and get an instruction manual for your machine. After a lengthy search of my usual manual sources, I've determined that that this may not be so easy. I think you should contact White on their 800 number and let them try and help you... 1-800-331-3164.
