SOURCE: My computer does not shut down

Ok
Gonna try and teach you some basic programming :-).
What the following will do, is create you a Desktop Shutdown Icon, which when you double click on it, will hopefully shut down your PC rather then restart it.
So here's how to do it :-).

1. Right click on your desktop and select new > shortcut.
2. In dialog box type “shutdown –s”
3. Click next to continue and then type a name for shortcut (IE Shut Down PC) and click finish.

Now you should see the shortcut on your desktop and will hopefully solve your problem.

SOURCE: Windows Vista will not start up

Please have a look at this link to see MS's recommendations for startup problems in vista.
And since you can't even get it booted at the moment, see here for an explanation of that 0x...24 error code, which indicates a problem with the file system driver or the drive itself. You will need to run the chkdsk utility from a recovery disk or recovery console to determine this.
It's possible that since your optical drive is not functioning, that the driver for that drive is causing the problem, but if you don't have the recovery console installed and can't run a recovery disk, you may have to take it to a shop just to get it booted on another hard drive. (see similar discussion here)
There is a hotfix available for systems that receive this error code, see here
Because there is a hotfix available, you might be able to get Microsoft support for this problem by following the hotfix link in that last link.
Good luck.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

How to open locked HD

First of all, was your HDD connected internally or externally. And Did you ever used any folder lock software on the HDD or Bit locker. If not, then Find a software package called File Scavenger and install its full version on your computer. Run it and make sure it can recognize your locked HDD, then select Long Recovery. Your files will be recovered slowly until the progress goes to 100%. Then Click on TREE VIEW to be able to view the contents of your HDD the way they were., Then select recover and select a recovery destination. Probably not to the same locked HDD

Thank you, I hope my post will help you somehow

start your computer in safe mode ,run auto run manager (download it first from internet ) stop unwanted programs from list , then open task manager , open process list , delete unwanted user process , then open run, type regedit , click export in file option of regit window. Save it on desktop, shut down your computer , run on normally ,click on file that you save on desktop ,click merge to registry. Then it will be fine

Every time i try to use my acer crystal eye webcam, my screen turns blue and the computer shuts off.

Hello.
If your operating system is Windows XP and you are the only owner of this PC (you should have administrator's rights), then try this:
Press [START] -> [Run...] -> type DEVMGMT.MSC -> press [OK]
A new window Device Manager should appear. Locate where your webcam is listed. Right click on it and choose uninstall. Confirm Device removal with the [OK] button.
Then do the following: Press [START] -> [Run...] -> type APPWIZ.CPL -> press [OK]. A new window Add or Remove Programs should appear. Locate driver, utility or program associated with your webcam and uninstall it.
Restart your computer and install a new driver for webcam from Acer support's home page:

Windows wouldn't load.

always choose from the Up -down arrows the last good known configurations ..and press enter to start windows...it was probably a system crash ..or just a protective shut down from a blue screen error..those happens probably its time to reinstall your system cause it has too many issues...but usually it isn't that tragic if you just unplug or switch of from power....and restart ..but if the problem persist ..you have to reinstall or at list to run restore with a boot from cd....cause it might have system files deleted by the antivirus ..or other mistake ... anyway ...the first three otions ar efor other porposes (safe) but any of the other two ...will work just fine...just press enter ...if it doesnt work ..it mean its damaged and need reinstalation ..

Monitor screen goes blue after game install.

You have an incompatability between the drivers and Windows. Uninstall the games. Is everything all right now? Upgade your video and sound drivers. You can download these from the manufacturers web site. Now reinstall the games.

Computer shut down

That is called the "blue screen of death". Another words your system crashed. Did you download any software, music, drivers or screen savers? If anything, what exactly did you download. If you just opened a web site, sounds like your may have gotten a virus. Try restarting and try to boot into "safe mode". Run your anti-virus making sure you turn off system restore first and delete all internet temp. files/ cookies/ and history. Delete your recycle bin/ restart and see if that takes care of the problem.
If you still can't boot without the BOD, try doing a system restore to the point before this started. Make sure to turn sys. restore back on once you solve the problem. If the blue screen comes up again, as soon as you see it hit pause on your keyboard and write down what it says; especially the error code; 0x0000008 etc.

Blue Screen of Death, but not quite

hard drive is a main failure concern, check to ensure power supply is plugged in. sounds like you have a corrupted rgistry file-locate OS for that unit and hit ''repair'', should solve the problem.
