Cannot install or update anything without using administrator account!

I was told to run a virus scan. It will only allow the administrator account to do this. I cannot update Flash as requested, or anything else

This issue has nothing to do with viruses or Windows Updates.
I wish that people who do not know the answers would refrain from confusing others. ...

It is not clear to me if this is your own, private computer, or an office (work) computer where the user settings are controlled by an IT department.
If it is controlled by an IT department, then you need the IT department to change your account type from a standard user to an administrator, if they allow that option to their users. ....

On the other hand, if this is your own private computer, and you are able to use the Admin account (which is not very clear to me from your message), you can do whatever changes you want to the other accounts (from the admin account).
Start > Use Control Panel.
Under User Accounts and Family Safety, click on Add or remove user accounts.
From the list of accounts window, click on the desired account (or add a new one).
Now you can change many options to that account, including the account "Type" (6th option on the left), from standard user to administrator by clicking the appropriate radial button.
Click OK.
You are done.

Try turning the User Account Control off. If that doesn't work, try creating a new user account and set it as an Administrator. If that still doesn't work, try download and run Adwcleaner and Combofix from www.bleepingcomputer.com. If all else fails, maybe try a System Restore. All of the answers in bold can be found in the Control Panel, just search for them at the search box.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your suggestions but unfortunately everything I try to do requires the administrator to do it!"

You can not install anything from a limited account. That is the idea of a limited account. Try installing the game from the administrator account.

Ok there are two things you can try here the first this is you can right click on the application and run as administrator should be an option that should get you around that problem. Now to run the updater in safe mode to try and fix your problem should also be an easy fix. When you start up your computer and you get to the section ware it asks you how you would like to boot one option should be to boot in safe more with networking this will allow you to access your systems in safe mode and the internet by loading all needed drivers and processes for networking allowing you to access the internet.

I hope this helps.

Thank you,
Norse

Have a virus need to get it out need a free nopay tape of antivirus can u help none is working???

If you can download this scanner from mbam called Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Once you run this on the target computer you can do a full scan and get rid of the virus, it catches most nasties.
If the virus stop any antivirus from running, you may have to boot into safe mode and run it from a USB device or burn it and run it from a disk. To boot into safe mode :
Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected. And boot into safe mode.
Hope this helps,

The "virus scanner" that your mom clicked on might have been the virus to install more viruses.

too boot your computer, boot it in safe mode
https://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true

The virus should not be able to lauch. From then use a virus scanner to scan the computer. I would recommend Malware-bytes.

Re-install Windows, choosing to install Windows to a different folder-name -- anything *OTHER* than 'C:\WINDOWS'.
Then, when logged-in to the "new" version, you can virus-scan your computer, and access all your files from the "old" installation.

Maybe, the virus-scan will clean-up the "old" installation.
Shutdown, restart, and choose to boot from the "old" installation.

Block internet browsing but i can still update my anti-virus

Friend just go to your control panel in that you will see that user account and family safety. Select the users account rather than administrator ie account of yours( Your account should have administrator previledge.) Now set parential control on and click on the settings which are alike window webs control laying under window settings. Now on this window just select the block some website or contents & select Only allow website which are on the allow list.
By default all the websites are blocked except you alows them by adding it to allowed list whick link would be above this check box. Also check the Block file downloads so that only you can update the antivirus or window updates as some download also can opens some websites. Thats all.

Hello and thank you for using Fixya services.

From the sounds of your issue, it may be that you have malware or a trojan. You can run a scan using this free malware/antivirus protection. I am not sure which antivirus you are currently using but this one is free and has excellent reviews. You will need to uninstall your current antivirus protection first before installing this one.

Malware/trojans can disable your antivirus programs and make it look like everything is running smoothly. This would also block Windows updates. By running a thourall scan with another program, you can get the malware out. Even the best antivirus can be disabled.

Please let me know i I can be of further assistance

How to protect my system without any virus threats.....?

  • If your are not using the internet very often, Then the only source of infection is through use of infected files from CD/DVD/FLOPPY/Pen Drives. So its always a best practice to scan the media before using the files on them.
  • Also whenever you do connect to the internet, you need to update the antivirus.
  • If you have no option to connect to the internet, most anti virus providers offer patches. Which can be downloaded from a cybercafe and then updated in your system.

Internet connection is corrupt

Which website? Sounds like you may either have a virus or your LSP is corrupt (which could also be caused by a virus). Try running Spybot-S&D (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Spybot_Search_and_Destroy/1043809773/1), updating it after installing, running a scan, and deleting anything it finds. Hopefully that helps.
