How to extact the data off the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB HD

My motherboard crashed on my HP Pavilion and I need to know how to extact the data off the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB Hard Drive. Firmware = 3.AHG. Short of going to a Best Buy Geek Squad, how can I backup my hard drive once the mother board crashes?

If its your motherboard that crashed then ther is no problem with your hard disk. connect your hard disk to any other computer and you can access all the files in it.
if it is your harddsik that crashed then try recovery utilities like western digital data storege manger or any other disk recovery tool available for free. if still it fails then you can recover your data if you hand over your hard disk to the nearest service centre. but recover from a hard disk only if its very valuable. thay will charge you per MB of data recovered

I had a desktop crash.the pc shop tod me it was the hardrive, and replaced it. I still have the old one. Question 1 why cannot the disk be replaced.2 how do I retrieve data off the old drive?

The hard disk must have crashed and only professional data recovery service providers can retrieve data from the hard disk. It will cost money and if the data is extremely important then only you should opt for data recovery.

We bought this Touch Smart PC from Best Buy here in Canada, after one year tha hard drive crashed already, when we call for service they said that it does'nt have warranty anymore. Is that how the hard...

I don't know exactly what model of Seagate Barracuda do you have. I know that the warranty for Seagate drives is 5 years (maybe not for all countries). I suggest you to take a look at this link for your own country and disk drive, and ask for hard disk replacement from Seagate. Mention that at the disk replacement procedure the new disk is clean (without data) so you will need to reinstall windows at the new disk.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

Cannot detect Seagate Barracuda 7200.9

The motherboard has two SATA connectors but they only go up to a 150 MB/s data transfer rate.

Your Seagate however, is engineered for 300 MB/s data transfer.

Download the Seagate manual for this drive and you will see the diagram on the last page that shows how to place a jumper on the drive to make it work at 150 MB/s.

My Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB SATA Hard Drive is less than 2 years old and has crashed, any fixes?

Hard drives are only designed to last 3 to 5 years. Most hard drive manufacturers only warranty them for 1 year.
For whatever reason yours has died.

Backing up your data is imperative.

If you need to recover data from this hard drive, there are places online that you can send the drive to and they can recover the data on your hard drive. This can cost you a bundle though. If the data is not necessary, all you can do is buy a new one and reinstall your operating system.

Install a seagate 7200.7 in a cool max enclosure

They sure are !
You need an IDE or EIDE enclosure.

If you bought the enclosure very recently you may want to try taking it back and swapping it for another one

If its a big box store you might want to try the "it just doesn't work and I am clueless" routine
Seen that work quite a bit much to my dismay. Then the people usually get money back and go to another store to get the correct item.

NOTE I dont condone that method !
