SOURCE: Elna Carina Zig'Zag Stitch Issue

Over time, and especially when not used, there is a likelihood of dust and old oil forming a sort of glue, or clag....

Remove the needle for safety, then, when you have the setting on Zig zag, gently push the needle arm to the opposite side of the zig stitch.......release the needle arm, and if it springs back quickly, it is fine, if it moves slowly, or almost not at all, then the clag needs removing with application of few drops of methylated spirit to start, at the sort of piston affair that shifts needle arm L & R .....move the needle arm back & forth until it frees up, a drop of oil to finish.........if almost seized, may require leaving overnight after using a penetrating lubricant if it is really resistant....I have had them on the bench for 3 days with manual manipulation a few times each day before they finally come good.

SOURCE: How do I change the stiches?

You can do all of these stitches by using different combinations of your stitch selector, stitch width and stitch feed knobs, for instance, on the panel I can see on your machine:

http://www.jo-ann.com/joann/product/images/52659.jsp?CATID=cat3122&PRODID=prd11333

Stitches 1, 2 & 3 are straight stitches, centered, left and right. Really basic stuff, not different stitches at all. 4,5,6,7 & 8 are zig-zag stitches of different widths. 9 is the widest zig-zag (no. 8) on a finer stitch length, etc...

I think you should try and get an instruction manual for your machine. After a lengthy search of my usual manual sources, I've determined that that this may not be so easy. I think you should contact White on their 800 number and let them try and help you... 1-800-331-3164.

If you found this helpful, please vote generously as I receive nothing other than acknowledgement for my time.

Turn the dial for stitch length so that the black line that separates the stitch length numbers from the buttonhole functions is in the 12 o'clock position. This engages the gears that operate your red stitches.

SOURCE: How do you thread the Elna Carina?

thought I had a manual with an image of this but can't find it.

But pretty simple.
tally_girl_31.jpg Place thread onto one of the spool pins at the back right, and pull thread across to the left and around the white blob on top of the machine head then back to the right to the little thread eyelet, down through this and down to the thread guide taking thread around it from the right and back up on the left side, back up and through the thread take up lever, then down again catching behidn the little thread guide, then to needle bar thread guide, then to needle eye.

ALWAYS HOLD THE two threads firmly behind the pressure foot when you start sewing - Really important.

Always wind and insert the bobbin with the holes on top, smooth side downwards. Place bobbin into bobbin holder and take thread take towards you and into the tension spring groove, pressing down on the thread with your finger until you hear it click into the tension spring. pull back the other way to check it is in there, if it comes out, do it again.

Bobbin will rotate anticlockwise when you pull the thread.

THen put needle plate cover down and draw bottom thread to the top using flywheel or the needle up/down button on these lovely machines.

Hope this helps, if not post again and I'll dig out images from my SU manual.

SOURCE: I need an instruction manual for the Elna Carina

There is a sewing guide available free here for the SU which is very similar to the Carina
http://www.arizonaexpressionz.com/elna_instruction_manuals/SU_air_electronic.pdf
but not an instruction Manual.

The SU, Carina, 500 and Jubilee all came with two books, instruction manual and sewing guide.

Zig zag not working on Elna Carina seeing machine

If the zig zag function on your Elna Carina sewing machine is not working, there could be a few possible causes:
  1. Incorrect stitch selector: Make sure you have selected the correct stitch on your machine. Double check that you have selected the zig zag stitch, and not accidentally switched to another stitch.
  2. Incorrect stitch width: The stitch width knob on your machine controls the width of the zig zag stitch. Make sure that the stitch width is not set to zero, as this would prevent the zig zag function from working. Adjust the stitch width to the desired size.
  3. Tension issues: If the thread tension is too tight or too loose, it can affect the zig zag stitch. Check your thread tension to make sure it is set correctly.
  4. Clogged machine: Dust, lint, and debris can accumulate inside your sewing machine and affect its performance. Clean your machine thoroughly, including the bobbin area and the feed dogs.
If none of these solutions work, it may be necessary to have your machine serviced by a professional.

Did Elna Carina SU 66 originally come with a straight stitch foot and throat plate?

No, the Carina came with a standard zig zag plate and 5 feet I think from memory, the teflon coated foot , the embroidery foot, buttonhole foot, zipper foot and darning foot.

How to remove a can from a elna Carina electronic 65

you need to set the stitch width dial to zero, the stitch length dial to zero so that the cam following arm is disengaged and moved back off the cam. Now look at the cam, it is sitting on a silver shiny spindle, press down onto this with your fingers and this will unlock the little finger which locks onto the cam, releasing the cam upwards. Press firmly and it should release.

Elna 3210 raw-edge zig-zag stitch bunching

Zigzagging on the raw edge of a lightweight fabric will pull up, because the needle is swinging to the right side off the fabric, bet solution is to use the three step zigzag to overcast the raw edge, it looks like a zigzag mad of dots in the stitch icon. Dont know your model well, but its late model so should have this stitch.

Stitch width knob

What's the model? Do you have the stitch selector set on straight stitch, or on a stitch with a width component, like a blind hem stitch?
Some machines consider straight stitch to be a zigzag stitch of width=0, while others have separate settings for a straight stitch and a zigzag (or other) stitch.

Perhaps the spindle where the cam sets needs a drop of good quality sewing machine oil, like Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube. Be sure the stitch length & width are set to Zero.
