Repairing this is pretty easy once you know how ice
makers work. Just remember there are thousands of different models of
refrigerators and it will always be a good idea to write your model number and
brand name somewhere because that will be the first thing the repair parts
vendor will ask for. On refrigerators most times will be around the inside door
frame of the fresh food compartment. Then you will have the Kenmore Brand model
numbers that look like this 790.99012 Most of that information can be found on
this page Locating the Number's enough about that part an ice maker unfortunately
has about a five year life span and most whirlpool brand have repair parts but
by the time you add the parts and time you could have already bought a new ice
maker. This of course is not to say your ice maker is at fault here. If you
have no ice or shrinking ice in the ice slots of your refrigerator fill with
tap water and make sure ice maker is turned on. Once the water in the ice maker
(if ice maker is good) freezes it should drop into ice bin. If water does not
refill thist points to the dual water control valve located on back and near
floor. Below is a video that I find very informing weather you have a Whirlpool
or another brand. If video does not appear below then click here=> Broken Ice Make Repairs Most
people say if they have water in fountain that they should also have ice but
the fact is the dual water control is called that because one side fill the ice
maker while the other controls the water dispenser. If to have a multi-meter
and would like to test please let me know. With wiring disconnected from the
water control valves you have a coil that acts as a magnet to pull a metal
plunger open when ice maker calls for water and the coil for the dispenser side
both should read from 150 to 250 ohms. at the terminals coming out of them. If
not then they should be replace with a complete new water control valve. If you
have questions or need more answers please let me know, Thank you Sea Breeze.

Place the mixer bowl in the freezer. The amount of time required depends on the temperature of your freezer, but you should expect to leave it in the freezer for about one day prior to use. To check if the bowl is frozen, shake it gently. If you don't hear any liquid sloshing around inside, it's ready to use.
Place the mixer bowl onto the motor base when you're ready to make ice cream. Insert the mixing paddle into the bowl and place the cover over the bowl.
Turn on the ice cream maker and pour the ice cream mixture into the hole at the center of the appliance until it reaches the fill line. Do not exceed the fill line, as the ice cream will increase in volume as it freezes. Use the low setting if you want a firm ice cream and the High setting if you want a softer consistency. Do not add nuts, candy or chocolate chips at this stage as they can become hung up in the mixing paddle and stop the machine.
Cover the center hole with the cap and allow the ice cream maker to run for 30 to 45 minutes.
Add mix-in ingredients such as nuts and candies two minutes before shutting down the machine.
Turn off and unplug the machine prior to removing the ice cream from the bowl. GE recommends using plastic or rubber utensils to avoid scratching the inside of the mixer bowl.
