No picture, sound works on Sony TV. Sometimes the picture comes on and stays intact, but most of the time it doesn't. When the pictures shows up it is in good quality
Try to adjust the screen. it is located behind the CRT board.(CRT board is the board that attached to the picture tube) you will find a black knob which label screen adjust it by turning the knob.

dear, you can check that transformers out put before connecting to a tv. also when its connected to a tv.
get a avo meter and connect in series with a tv.
observe the current on the intial switch on and when the picture goes. if you notice that current on intial switching is high and then it starts going lower and lower, then change the transformer.
but if the current starts going up from the intial current then check the power supply components of the tv.

The set may have shorted the horizontal out put transistor since it kept coming on sometimes. This could be cause by the driver transformer arcing causing a "spike" in voltage going to you horizoltal out put transistor.
