Me too. I bought a used eBay Sportster SP-R2R and it worked ok (just ok) for 2 days and now it always says, "asquiring signal". Help!! What do I do? Thanks...

Display always says "acquiring signal". Receiving 7-10 bars of signal strength when I check "antenna aiming" function. Happens identically when plugged into both home and car docking stations.

same problem in Tampa. I'm noticing this in multiple geographical locations. I called Sirius customer service and had some poorly informed overseas 'tech' read to me from a manual. This is a year-old install and I am not standing underneath an overpass!!! Blue sky, no signal driving in all directions.

Problem began in early-mid November'07. Initially, the signal would cut in and out. Looking at the signal strength indicator, I showed a loss of satellite signal and about 30% terrestrial on average. Terrestrial would shoot up to full strength in downtown areas and audio would resume.

Now, I am showing 0% terrestrial and satellite. No signal coming in at all.

All of the sudden, I now always get "Acquiring Signal". The signal won't come in at all, even intermittently. I've unplugged and replugged and checked the antenna. I'm also noticing an 'X" to the left of the theme in the lower right (i.e. Sports, News, etc...) that I'm not sure was there before.

    I'm in Vermont.

SAME " AQUIRING SIGNAL" READOUT, PROBLEM

IT'S EITHER THE ANTENNA OR THE RECIEVER ITSELF, NOT SURE WHICH ONE YET?

  • hollifieldja Oct 11, 2008

I have the same problem. I thought it was my antena, so I switched it to my boom box and it still does it. Sirrius says that I need a new receiver due to the fact that my receiver is obsolete after 2 years. My problem began after the sirius/XM merger. The tech guy at sirrius said my receiver was not compatible with the network. Does the word class action mean anything?

I have the same problem with a Sportster Replay. Had it for 3 years exactly and never had a problem until a week ago. Now the unit will play for roughly 3-6 minutes until the "acquiring signal" message takes over. Either 1-2 bars or an X in the corner. After about 10 minutes, it will come back on and then turn off again. I suspected the antenna/connection until I tried my boombox and got the same results. This seems to be a defect in the receiver as several forums are reporting many of the same problem. I'll have to call Sirius and ***** to get it replaced. I still have a year on my subscription and will not pay for a new receiver.

My sportster SP-R1A is about 3 years old. About 6 mos. ago, I lost the backlight. Then a couple mos. ago everyday, sometimes twice a day it started updating channels for about 2 minutes. Then after that maybe a month ago the dreaded "acquiring signal" started. Sometimes the screen will stay on the same song, but the audio is silent, or shall I say dead. I have 2 car docks, and 1 home dock, so the problem in in the unit not the antenna. Now if you buy another sportster it won't fit the old docks, so they would have to be replaced too. I hope someone has a cheap answer instead of investing another $200 in disposable equipment.

Sirius Stiletto 2 constantly "acquiring signal"

This is an odd fix, but I read it yesterday after having the "Acquiring Signal" issue for a week. I put it in the freezer for 30 minutes, brought it back to my desk and now it works. I don't know why or how, but I am happy.

Sirius satellite radio constantly shows "acquiring signal"

it could be the connection on the back of the reciever that could be bad. I would call sirius and see if your reciever is under warranty still, if not i can almost garauntee that your tuner antenna input is bad, if your antenna is brand new.

Sirius sportster sp-tk1, always displays "acquiring signal"

Hi guys!! I am a sirius satellite radio employee and unfortunately, when this happens (usually when the receiver is about 2 years old) the radio is pretty much shot. It is a common problem with the older sportster models, but not so much with the newer one. As the receivers are probably more than a year old, they are now out of warranty and the only resolution is to call us at sirius and say you want to cancel the subscription on the radio. When cancellation is imminent, we will offer to send you a replacement (although it will be a different unit not compatible with you current docking stations) at no cost to you. Sometimes an antenna replacement will actually stop the problem, but it will happen again very shortly afterward, and thus it is only a temp fix to a permanent problem. Hope this helps you out!!

Sirius sportster sp-tk1, always displays "acquiring signal"

Sirius does not stand behind their products, There is no out of warranty repair for their radios,  and they do not offer sites for repair. Seems  like this is a definite problem with this model. Their solution is to buy a new radio,(with all the new-docking,boombox etc) accessories. also they charge $75.00 to change to the new radio.I liked my sportster 1 because of the FM modulator. It just had to be centrally located and all the radios in my home picked it up(no docking) the new radios require $50.00 docking stations for each stereo location and radio location, unless you bring a boombox everywhere, and the sound isn't the same.    I feel there should be a class action lawsuit against Sirius for these reasons and I might look into it. What do all you think?

I cannot acquire satellites signal. What to do ?

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching! The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me: 1) open the GPS antenna 2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on 3) enter maintenace mode 4) select diagnostics 5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data 6) restart unit the usual way My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.
