Two possibilities:
1) either the earbud plug has a loose connection, or
2) a soldier joint in the player itself is cracked.

Have you tried different earbuds? If that fixes the problem, then yea!

If new earbuds don't fix the problem, the it's likely a cracked soldier joint. Cracked joints are easy to repair, IF you have the right soldiering iron and are a careful working who enjoys learning new skills.

Good luck.

SOURCE: headphone connection

Common to all mp3 players - there are a few videos on YouTube purporting to show you how to fix the headphone jacks, but they usually don't work. Replace the mp3 player is the only solution.

I have a 2002 Chrysler Town & country and I can't get the sound to work for the Vcr/player Without headphones. How do I get the sound without the headphones?

I had one of these and it turned out to be the headphone jack, when you put the headphone plug into the jack it disables the speaker and when you unplug the headphones it enables the speaker. There's a contact in the jack and it is probably stuck to headphones. The jack may need to be replaced. Try and wiggle the plug a few times but not hard as it may break from the curcuit board.

Le32d400e sound gone

You might have an issue with the headphone socket where the jack goes---when jack goes in it moves a leaf in the socket to turn off the speakers====try to slightly wiggle the jack in and out===the socket may be cleaned with electronic cleaner.

Input jack on my hp541 kicker headphone's sound comes and goes. I have tried multiple cables, If I wiggle the cable around it works in one speaker sometimes both.

Hi hotrodjayrod,

If the symptoms remain the same after trying another headset, this kind of fault is caused by bad solder joints in the earphone jack itself of your unit. This is due to frequent inserting and pulling the headset plug. To resolve the issue, the earphone jack must be re-soldered. You have to open the back cover of your player and using a pointed soldering iron, re-solder the joints.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

I have intermittent sound, in one ear only, tried changing headphones, it seems to be a connection problem. When I wiggle the earphone jack the sound goes in and out.

The jack is broken in your MP3 player. It's usually held together with cheap plastic. If you can bring it back for a replacement.

My left earpiece in my sentry headphones have no sound. How do I fix this?

Check the plug - it might have a broken wire, by wiggling it in the jack. It could be the jack as well - try another headphone in the jack.

How do I fix a bad connection with the headphone jack on my ipod touch? When plugged in, the music is static-y. It is definitely the headphone jack that is the problem.

Hi, this seems to happen on a lot of mp3 players , usually when you wiggle the headphone in the jack the sound cuts in and out, its the result of the headphone jack bending the metal contact inside the player or can be due to a build up of dirt/ grime in the socket. The problem generally gets worse as time goes on
if you have tried it with different headphones still get the problem and its still under warranty I would get on the apple site or down to you local apple centre and try and get a replacement.
Sometimes a spray of deoxit (plastic conductive lubricant /cleaner)
in the socket does the trick , but I would strongly reccomend trying to get a replacemnt

MDR-7506 - No sound on right side

It sounds like the pin cracked. If this is the case, you'll need to soldier a new jack on it. Here's how, assuming you already know how to soldier a new 1/8" TRS phono plug.

Cut and strip the cord. There should be two copper wires and (on Sony headphones, at least) a red and a green strand. On a new 1/8" jack, there should be three connections. The middle one is left, and is where the green one goes. The short one on the side is right, and is where the red one goes. The long bit is the common, and is where the copper one goes. Before you solder, however, remember which strand is which, because you have to sand or burn off the colored enamel. (Use a fine grain paper, or use a standard lighter or stick match- anything else might damage or melt the wire)
