Why does LG dehumidifier run continuously and not shut off?

The capacitor is likely to have failed internally. It can still produce voltage. Or the transformer that supplies power has failed.

There are several reasons why your T2 Direct Dehum 3 dehumidifier may be alarming after running for a few seconds:

1. Dirty or Clogged Air Filter: A dirty or clogged air filter can cause the dehumidifier to overheat and shut down. Check the air filter and clean or replace it if necessary.
2. Defective Humidity Sensor: If the humidity sensor is defective, it may cause the dehumidifier to shut down. The sensor may need to be replaced.
3. Faulty Compressor: A faulty compressor can cause the dehumidifier to shut down after running for a short time. You may need to replace the compressor.
4. Low Refrigerant Charge: If the refrigerant charge is low, it can cause the dehumidifier to shut down. You may need to recharge the refrigerant.
5. Faulty Control Board: A faulty control board can cause the dehumidifier to shut down or display error messages. You may need to replace the control board.

It is recommended to contact a qualified technician to diagnose and repair the issue with your dehumidifier.

Probably some glitch with the sensors. I recommend taking it to a service center.

Barbara, are you running the unit in a continuous mode (i.e Using a hose to drain the unit)? Or is the water draining into the water collection bucket?

If you are not using a hose for continual drainage, the fan will not run constantly. It requires that, for continual operation.

Also, you may have the humidity extraction level set to high. Lower it to 35%. Also, remove and check the air intake filter, as it may need cleaning.

Dehumidifiers that are not Low Temp models have a difficult time operating in basement applications. Because the air temp at floor level is colder than at shoulder level. At temperatures between 40 & 60 degree F, regular dehumidifiers struggle to keep up. Raising it up off the flow on to a sturdy table, counter top, etc that can handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water can really help.

As per your problem, that the dehumidifier shuts offautomatically - If yourdehumidifier froze, the compressor will shut off automatically. Allow the iceto melt before emptying the tank and restart the dehumidifier. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.

It may be, that you have it running in continuous mode, rather than timed mode. Also, most dehumidifiers fans will run almost continually, to keep the air moving, so the humidity sensor can pickup and increase in humidity, if there is one.

If the above doesn't seem to be the problem with your unit, turn The Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit for 12-15 minutes. This will give the electronics time to reset themselves, if necessary.

sounds like the rheostat (aka rotary swithch) is opened (fried). can get new one on www.appliancefactoryparts.com for 8.19 + s/h. need to know how to solder though. otherwise you will be looking at having to buy new unit for $120+

Is the compressor running or is it just the fan? If its just the fan it is because it is cycling the air and it uses that air flow to check the humidity in the air. If the fan runs non-stop and the compressor does not turn on or the fan does not shut off there is a problem with this unit and you will need to replace it. Since it is brand new you should still be able to return it to the store.

I just picked one up at a tag sale, seller said it worked sometimes. Seems to have the same problem as yours. I took the time to tweak all of the connections and then re-soldered the control board with no luck. I finally disconnected the humidity control and it worked fine. By disconnecting the humidity control the unit defaults to it's highest setting and you have to unplug the unit to turn it off. Conclusion so far is that the humidity control rheostat is bad.
Note: Now while running the fan runs continuously and the compressor cycles on and off every 10 to 15 minutes. This may to be normal since the unit appears to be doing its job and I'm not sure how it is supposed to run since a purchased it broken.
