I keep getting an "install ink cartridge" message when the cartridge is in. Is there a way to clear or bypass this? I am using official HP 701 cartridge.

I'm running into a similar issue, the cartridge may be a year of 2 old but only has been printing transmission confirmations, Not much else. Into level is 8/8. Yet it keeps telling me install new cartridge. Thus happened a month ago. I unplugged the power chord and for what it's worth, the phone line, after a while it worked again, still levels at 8/8. Now its back to install cartridge.

6ya, please don't jump in with your same stinking here's the link no holds, etc. all for money? No FAQ's either ! (I don't DO FAQ's - like o the dew)I want a direct answer!
I'll just call HP. But anyone have the same issue? What was it ? Did you get I think working again ?
    ThanM

How do i find ink levels in Windows 8 for HP Office Jet J4580

It depends on what type of ink cartridge you have installed.....with HP genuine ink cartridges and HP Solution center installed, everything should be there. However, if you get an HP integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. HP 60, 61, 74, 75, 901, 92-98....currently offered at Costco or Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels will not be displayed nor can they be reset (HP has a smart chip embedded within the nozzle plate at base of ink cartridge which counts the drops and then registers as empty).....so you'll just need to live with it and ignore 'ink low', 'non-genuine', 'counterfeit' messages and similar while you are using these types of aftermarket supplies. The first video below provides an overview of the 'low ink' phenomena.

NOTE: These types of 'SEVERE' cartridge errors (i.e. "refer to documentation" / "incompatible cartridges", "print cartridge(s) problem" etc.) typically indicates the internal micro-electronics of the HP #901 / 901XL cartridge are damaged. The cartridge's electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure. I suggest you first run a 'Tap 41' diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a forced test); you may also bypass the error (temporarily) on all models which use HP 901 cartridges. NVM reset for hp photosmart c4780

You can gain access to the service menu...refer to Cartridge Error Clear bypass procedure below (as guidance of how to get in):

For any severe cartridge error related message, on the HP C4600, C4700 or D110a printer models, I suggest you run the internal Tap 41 diagnostics test which will tell you the electrical health of the ink cartridge - in many cases the cartridge is internally electrically damaged and will need to be replaced. In addition, you can temporarily bypass an 'incompatible cartridge(s) or Missing/Not Detected error message by performing the Cartridge Error Bypass procedure...refer to two Youtube videos on how to do this:

Ink Refilling & Cartridge Care Tips - Everything you need to know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnXoDIblpdU

If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 74, 75, 74XL, or 75XL ink cartridge refuses to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. If you run into a problem where the ink cartridge is performing marginally and blocks printing (via the Red X), you can bypass the error message (usually only 1 time per clearing action):

HP Photosmart 4200-4500 5200-5500 Printers -Cartridge Error Bypass (HP 74-75 Cartridges):

As soon as I started using recycled ink cartridges, I started getting a paper jam error on my printer. The control panel message instructs me to remove the back panel and clear paper jam. I've done this several times but there is no paper to clear and the message keeps coming back. I've tried turning of the printer and unplugging it to clear the memory, but that doesn't help. Could it be that the chip on the ink cartridge is messing with the printer's operating system?

Just installed refilled black ink cartridge on hp

By using refilled cartridges you will always have this problem. Each cartridge has a chip that lets the printer know when it is full or empty. By pressing the ok button you may be able to clear this message. However, most of the time you can still be able to print and ignore the message.

The printer keeps messaging ink on sseveral colours is low but it is not. Have even tried new cartridges but no difference, same message . Seems to be misreading ink level

Some printers need special software (that shipped with the printer) to "tell" the printer that the ink-cartridge has been replaced, and that the ink-levels need to be fully "reset".

if yes, install an actual brand new one.

are you using an official cartridge that you've had laying around for a while?
the cartridges expire so check if your cartridge has expired and replaced accordingly.

Cartridge error hp officejet j6480 generic cartridge

I own one of these printers and refill cartridges for a living. When you get this problem its best to return the cartridge for another, thats what I do for my customers.

When buying re-manufactured cartridges its best to buy from a local store and ask about there return policy before making your first purchase.

If you are buying from a reputable re-manufacturer then this will be a very rare problem. It happens with genuine HPs too.

BTW this printer uses HP 74 & 75 inks. when buying re-manufactured buy the HP 74xl which gives (according to HP) 750 printers compared to 200 from the HP74. Remanufactured HP75s are fill to HP75xl capacity.
