Re: What bike company uses USD as first 3 digits in
Is this a riddle? There is no answer to this question because these serial numbers contain dates, manufacturer, model numbers and location of manufacturing plant.
Serial Numbers are usually in one of two locations.
Turn the bike upside down and look at what is the very bottom of the frame where the pedals and cranks pass through. This is the bottom bracket shell. Serial numbers are commonly stamped here and will be a long series of numbers and letters
Occasionally they are also stamped inside the rear dropout on the left or right. The rear dropout is the part of the frame where the rear wheel is connected.

A simple Google search for "Schwinn Paramount serial number: yields the following as the 1st result: Schwinn Paramount Registry Database It appears that only in 1966 did the Paramount use a 3 digit serial number, and one of the examples also starts with an "e".
It would be helpful if you included a model name, but all you have to do is Google Murray serial number to get lots of info, such as: Murray serial number project
"In 65 they were changing there serial number style and by then they were on the left rear dropout. Some 65 bikes had an MO5 which stood for Murray of Ohio 1965. After these 3 digits was a 2 or 3 digit model number followed by and X and a 1 or 2 digit number that I will discuss momentarily.
MO5 = 65
MO6 = 66
MO7 = 67 **MO8 = 68**"

Unfortunately, these older bike serial numbers for manufacturers that are out of business are very hard to determine the year. There are several sites which may assist you. Put vintage bikes or "Western Flyer" on Google. It will bring up those sites.
