My Whirlpool Refrigerator/Freezer Model #GR2FHTXVQ00 or GR2FHTXVO00 is not keeping food cold. Food is spoiling. Freezer is cold but Refrigerator is warm.

The refrigerator is very warm. I have to keep everything in the freezer until it starts to freeze then move it back to refrigerator. What part do I need to replace? Is it the fan motor? Defrost meter? If I put too much in the freezer it freezes up forming ice under the vents.

With signs of freezing up in freezer area that would indicate a problem with the defrost components. The most likely reason would be a defrost control board. 2304093 Defrost Control Board
Here is a link to a parts manual for your model=> GR2FHTXVQ00.pdf(1101.27 KB) Look on page 3 and part location 4 That is the=> 2304093 Defrost Control BoardThe next possible parts are the 2314157 Defrost Heater Assembly found as item location 4 on page 9 of the PDF. It may be a good idea to change the defrost thermostat=> 2321800 Defrost Thermostat found on page 3 with item location 28. If you have questions please let me know, Thanks John TrippAppliance 911

your sure the defrost cycle works? sounds to me its not. you need to remove the freezer back and check the defrost components. or put it in the defrost cycle and see if it is working. to get that much frost as you describe the dor would have to be left open. also check all door seals. let me know what you find and we can go from there

SOURCE: freezer not freezing food and fridge not staying cold enough

Check the compressor with a volt meter, if the compressor is getting proper voltage then check the relay. But this sounds like a problem with the compressor

SOURCE: Whirlpool model # ED25DQXDW04 - everything freezes

This may not be the problem now but by the sound of the malfunctioning ice maker, it could be in the future. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. If you would like to be a part of the petition for a recall on this appliance contact me at [email protected]

SOURCE: The Refrigerator is 2 years old, and is no longer

Hi Chris,

The problem would seem to be that you developed a small leak in the refrigeration system. This is also assuming that you checked and cleaned the condenser coils which are underneath the fridge. Excessive dirt could also cause this, but from what you are describing I would say the problem is more then that and you have a leak...

The only other thing would be thermostat sensor issues, but then the compressor would be cycling and not running steady...

BUYING DECISION: WE HAVE A REFRIGERATOR ALREADY. NEED EXTRA CAPACITY FOR REFRIGERATOR BUT NEED A FREEZER TO KEEP FOOD FOR AT LEAST 6-9 MONTHS. WILL WHIRLPOOL MODEL WRS315SNHM DO THE TRICK?

Question edited for spelling errors.
Please don't type in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING and is RUDE, plus it is harder to read!

Yes, perfect for the job and Whirlpool are very reliable. Any freezer will keep food fresh for years, never mind 6 to 9 months.

If you didn't need extra refrigerator capacity, a chest freezer is cheaper to run and more efficient as cold air falls to the bottom of the chest.

Refrig. Won't keep food cold but the freezer works fine. Milk spoils after 3 days in the refrigerator. What's wrong? The thermastat was supposely changed?

If the thermostat has been replaced, then I would take a look at the dampers between the refrigerator and the freezer. Here is why....
All the cooling takes place in the freezer section of the unit, there are passageways with dampers that connect the freezer section to the refrigerator section. If these dampers get stuck in a certain position you will either have not enough cooling or to much cooling. This sounds like it is your issue. Hope this helps.

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control
