My hbc161e wont power up when the battery cover is fully closed

Connected to the battery cover is a switch, stopping all activity, and switching off the camera, when the door is opened. At least that is how it should function.

This is to avoid the camera accessing the memory, while the battery is pulled out. This could damage all pictures already on the memory card.

So when the door is closed and the camera is not starting, it could imply something is pressing to hard on the "safety" switch.

Try to find out what changed in or around the battery door. Try to find out where the switch is and why it is acting strange.

Like some debris where it should not be at something came lose.

Camera shows write protect when open

When what is open? Always keep the battery / memory card door closed. If it is not closed correct, the camera won't work as expected. To protect the file system, when someone should pul out the memory card, while the camera is accessing the memory, it will or shut down completely, or at least protect the memory card against writing to it.
Before opening the battery / memory card cover, always make sure the camera is completely shut off. That means no light is allowed to burn or flicker. The memory card can also be write protected (SD cards) when the lock switch is down like in the picture on the 32GB card.
Before you can make any picture the switch on the card should be up like on the 64GB card on the picture. 3635bcf4-65df-478c-a04d-92e341d15860.jpg

Put in brand new memory card, but camera keeps coming up with card error.

Try formatting the card in the camera because Olympus camera's tend to be picky with how the card is formatted.

Hi, i accidently opened the battery door cover with the camera still on and now it says "memory card error" and won't take any more pix. how do i fix the problem? thanks

Hello. Turn the camera on and go to the menu. Find reset and reset your camera. This will take you back to the original factory settings. Next you may have to format your memory card. once again go to your menu and find format. Formatting will erase what you have on that card, so if you do not want to lose those pix save them to your computer first. Joe

Cannot find instructions in manual for Nikon Coolpix S210 on how to delete ALL photos from memory disk. It will let me delete one at a time but I want to wipe the memory card clean. Thanks for any and all...

These instructions are from the Instruction Manual of the Coolpix S 210 and need to be carried out within the Set-Up Menu.

Refer Page 19:

Removing Memory Cards
Before removing memory cards, turn the camera off
and confirm that the power-on lamp is off. Open the
battery-chamber/memory card slot cover and press the
card in 1 to partially eject the card 2. The card can
then be removed by hand.
B Formatting Memory Cards
If the message at right is displayed, the memory card must be
formatted before use (A110). Note that formatting permanently
deletes all pictures and other data on the memory card. Be sure
to make copies of any pictures you wish to keep before formatting
the memory card.
Use the multi selector to choose Yes and press k. The
confirmation dialog will be displayed. To start formatting, choose
Format and press k.
Do not turn the camera off or open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover until
formatting is complete.
• The first time you insert the memory cards used in other devices into the COOLPIX S210, be sure to
format them using this camera (A110).

Refer Pg 110:

 Format Memory/m Format Card
Use this option to format the internal memory or a memory card.
Formatting the Internal Memory
To format the internal memory, remove the memory
card from the camera.
The Format memory option appears in the setup
menu.
Formatting a Memory Card
When the memory card is inserted in the camera, the
Format card option appears in the setup menu.

Hope this helps

My camera will not turn on

Hey Aunt CC,
What is most likely happening is there is something obstructing the movement of the lens (like a piece of sand), and that is why it keeps powering down immediately when you turn the camera on. Another cause of this camera powering down immediately could be the battery cover or memory card cover is open. If those covers are not open I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician.

Sincerely,
Allan

Card-Cover open

According to Olympus Tech Support this is a Sensor issue and requires repair. They quoted $86 for repairs...to me that is just not worth it, I have the same issue but purchased a good used camera on ebay for only $40! Good luck, sory I couldn't help.

Lens will not come out of camera

There is a workaround for this problem, when the lens cover is open press down on the area of the lens cover on the "s" of Olympus. This can operate the switch that opens the lens etc. The long term fix is to remove the lens cover by removing the 2 screws at the base of the lens cover, take the lens cover off and gently clean around the switch which is behind the "s" of Olympus when the cover is on. I found that the grease/oil Olympus had used on the switch attracted dust etc and by cleaning this off the camera began working. Be careful when taking the lens cover off, there is also a very small metal plate that separates from the lens cover - don't lose it.
