After you reformat your pc, you need to install the drivers. you can install the drivers by using the drivers disc that came with your pc or you can download it from the computer manufacturer's website (example: http://support.dell.com).

By the way, what is the brand of your pc or motherboard?

Click "start", then "control panel". Find "device manager", right click on, open, then click continue. Clck on the box with + next to "sound audio and video controllers". Do you see a warning, ?, !, or yellow triangle? Clcik on that and follow procedure. You should see your device in the drop down. Right click on it and in the list you should see "disable". If you see "enable", click on that and exit. Right click on it again and click on "properties". You should see " this device working properly". If you are using on board sound, click on the "driver" tab, then click on Update driver. Click on "automatically search for update..."
When finished exit. You should have a speaker icon in your taskbar at the lower right of your screen. Right click on it and click on "open sound mixer" and adjust volume.

maybe your audio hardware is already broken, look for a technician to see if your sound card is still working.

You can download drivers from the compaq support site.
An alternate solution is to use a driver update program to find and install missing or outdated device drivers.

You need the drivers for your chipset as the sound is integrated. As this is a laptop it's probably intel. Just google intel drivers and use the tool that intel provide to check & update all drivers. If this does not work then you may need realtek HD audio drivers which again you can find easily via google. P.S The more info you provide the more helpful I can be. i.e what hardware your using

Do you have a drivers disk that came with the lap top? If not, you'll have to download the drivers from www.hp.com

are you referring to low frequency hum? that's a ground issue..check all your power cables, and eliminate the two prong approach..and plug your speakers into the wall directly to get the ground action

is there any other way to solve the audio problem? after i install win xp sp3 in my acer aspire 5550,i get stuck in installing audio driver.i have download the driver from many website even in acer.com, but still cant solve it..please give me some idea..
