Usually they don't require lubing. The bearings are enclosed so that the grease always stays where it was put. No chance of leaks. The lower springs arms could use a shot of motor oil under the rubber boots. But they should not be taken apart, as they are complex and spring loaded. They require special tools to reassemble

Schwinn 12 Roadster trike-handlebar does not fit into fork steer. Handlebar & fork have approx. same circumference, so can't slide it in. Is the handlebar defective & needs to be replaced? Thanks!

I assume you mean the handlebar stem does not fit into the fork steerer. Approximately the same diameter is not good enough. The stem has to be the correct size for the fork. The two most likely sizes are 22.2mm and .833 inches (21.15mm). Most stems have the size stamped near the bottom. There's a good chance your trike has a .833 steerer. Stems for that size are still available.

What year was this bike made Schwinn Continental 10 speed serial# JK562864

Look for an alphanumeric on the head tube or head badge (where the fork goes through frame) and then Google "Schwinn date codes". It might be worth $200 or more if in prime condition and pre-70's, or much less.

I found a Schwinn bicycle and wanted to know the year was told to post the serial number on the bottom of the frame it is w921336

Schwinn bikes made in the last several decades were made at many different overseas factories, and serial numbers varied. Look for a date code on the head tube or badge (where the fork goes through the frame. That is more helpful for date of manufacture. Would be helpful had you told us the model of the bike.

Schwinn 700c

ask at the bike shop, You need to get the proper length of the downtube. Best to bring in your old forks and they should be able to fix you up

Need headset size Schwinn Windwood. Want to replace fork.

1 inch threaded. I would suggest you take the bike into a bike shop and have them give you all the specifics related to replacing the fork. You are going to be very limited as too replacements if you use the original headset, Also you need to know the steerer length of both the original (measure your bike) and the fork you will use. This may need to be cut and threads chased, that requires special tools.

Bottom line take the bike into your local shop, have them take a look and make sure the project is going to fit your budget for this bike.

We are assembling a Schwinn Jasmine bicycle and it seems the front fork is too narrow for the wheel.

You mean somebody stepped on it in the crate? Give it a pull apart while stepping on it, make it fit, the fork needs to go in between the bearing race and the nut. Make sure the bearings are not tight, not loose either. Hope this helps.

In putting together my 26"

Loosen both nuts on front wheel.
Stand bike straight up, or set bike upside down on seat and handlebars.
With fingers on fork and thumb on wheel, pull wheel so it is centered on fork.

Now tighten one nut part way. Keep holding wheel.
You may need somebody to help.
Then tighten other nut.
Go back to fist nut and tighten a bit more.
Repeat back and forth tightening until nuts are tight and wheel is in center of fork.

Can I add a front hand brake to my Schwinn Electra Huli Huli Bike? It only has coaster brakes now. Thanks.

If there is a hole in the crown of the front fork (look directly above the tire where the two fork blades come together) then you can attach a brake.

You will want to go into your local bike shop and have them install the brake properly. They will also be the ones to tell you which type of brake will work with your fork/ rim combination. This is easy when the bike is in front of a qualified mechanic, but impossible without seeing it.

I would like to service my Schwinn Mesa, Is there a manual? If not what needs to be done for a general service?

Check, clean, and lube all the brake and shifter cables. Check and possibly replace brake pads. Check for any play in the headset ( this is the tube that carries the bearings for the handlebars and front fork ). Clean and lube the chain, gears, and derailers. After all of that just check the torque on all the hardware and make sure nothing is coming loose.
