I have comcast cable with motorola dvr, and when switching from analog or digital to hdtv the picture often freezes and I have to unplug the tv to start over. I can avoid the problem by changing the component input on the tv before the channel change and after 4 or 5 seconds switching to the correct component. Is there another way?
I also have a Brand new Sony Bravia 52" LCD with Comcast Cable (motorola box). When switching between HD Channels sometimes the left side of the screen shows a smushed version of the new channel, and the right side is a frozen picture of the previous channel. I correct this by switching to a non HD channel and back. Cable or TV problem I wonder?

Here a way,u could test,if it the cable signal,tv Main tuner board have problem or the DVR box again.U have analog antena?Or go and a buy a digital antena.Reset ur tv to free air signal and use it for few hours, turn it off/on and see if u losing signal, require unplug, replug to get signal back. Two problems solved ur tv board or cable signal good or not?Than U know it the DVR box and have connecting problems.
Use an RCA audio/video cable for this set up (Yellow/Red/White).
Connect from the Video out (Yellow) connection on the back of the cable box to the Video in on the back of the DVR.
Connect the audio (Red/White) cables from audio out connection on the back of the cable box to the "Audio in" on the back of the DVR.
This should still get you a decent picture but not a true HD picture for your recordings.
When you set the timer to record set it to record either E1 or E2 depending on which input you connected the cable box to and ensure that the cable box is tuned to the channel you wish to record.
*** NOTE: If you keep the HDMI cable connected as you have for the cable box and watch normal TV through the HDMI input on the TV you will get HD programming for your general viewing but still have the option to record with the DVR at a lower quality. ***
I get this a lot with my regular old TV, and I'm pretty sure it's due to the cheap digital-cable converter that Comcast supplies. Are you connected to cable? Digital? Comcast? The more "yes"s, the more likely that's your problem, not your TV.
this is a great factor with the weather EVEN CABLE TV IS THROUGH SATILLITE !!!! there could be bad weather 50 miles away and it will affect your signal..........
The problem your describing can be contributed to your cable box. Depending on your cable company there are times when the box has trouble translating the signal to the tv. You tv is operating normally. Suggest to the cable company to switch your box.
Try playing some DVD's for a number of hours to see if the fault is the DVR, or actualy the TV set. There is very little in these TV sets that can cause a picture freeze and still have sound!
Had this happen on a Comcast box (Motorola DCT 6416 III)
Here's how to fix it:
Turn the cable box off, leave fully connected. Press Menu on the remote
The cable box internal menu will display (Not the Comcast one the Motorola one-- i.e. Display ratios-16:9 etc It's in black and white)
Use the arrows to cursor to the Closed Captioning and toggle to "Disabled" Press Manu again to exit and Voila!
