Blinking battery is sign of transport problem. Probably failure of the transport gear unit I the bottom. Minolta is out of business so no parts. Some tech do a fix on this, you would have to call your local repair shops. This is too complicated for a novice.

SOURCE: Minolta Maxxum 400si is locked up

link to your manual, it tells us that we have a winding motor problem, I would do as you have done, so I would ensure that batterys are in great shape, the only other thing I could suggest is to try to turn the winding motor by hand in case it is just locked up. Failing that I presume the motor has died and needs replacement.

SOURCE: maxxum 7000 camera lithium battery

The above posting is correct, and the cell is a CR2016. The main batteries are removed by unscrewing the battery holder on the right grip. Most Maxxum 7000's have AAA's, some have AA's, and if you have the lithium holder, it uses a 2CR5, available at the photo shops / pharmacies.

SOURCE: Maxxum 5 broken battery door

I use US Camera on the internet.  They have a huge inventory of parts and work pretty well with the do-it-yourselfer. For the Maxxum 5: www.uscamera.com/1min003.htm
