Indoor unit fan blows, then stops etc. every 1-2 minutes

At least it is cooling properly. U might just want to call Mitsubishi and ask them if it is operating normally based on your observations.

Why is my Mitsubishi mr slim is blowing black particles into room?

Area where "fresh" air is being pulled in is dirty, filter needs replacement, heat exchanger is old, a seal is old/torn, or mold is shooting out!

I have a terrible smell coming out of my Mitsubishi air-con.

after making sure it will drain properly the best way to permanently remove smells is to use a "ozone machine" or a ionizer this attacks the odor causing molecules and breaks them down. 30-60 minutes from a powerful unit will do the trick , most carpet cleaning companies that also do water repairs have these machines and their rates vary. alpine air also makes a home unit and these are good to use in the home 24/7 as well

Our Brookstone air purifier sounds like a bug zapper in spite of cleaning filter. It's less than a year old. What is the problem?

have you cleaned the connections where the filter connects . There is prob dust and dirt down inside the filter , keeping it from making a good connection. The zapping sound is from the electricty jumping the gap. A good cleaning of the inside should help. Try attaching a small hose to your vac to fit down inside the unit. give the electrical connections a good cleaning . If that dosen't work take unit apart and wipe down with alchol that you can buy at any drugstore

How do I disaasemble the unit to clean the filter inside

There is no filter inside the unit. It's on the back of the unit. Once you remove it, you'll have access to the inside of the air purifier. I think what you wanted to know is, how to clean the plaques inside. Once the filter is removed, you'll see the plaques and they just slide out of their individual holder(s).
