sounds really bad. hard drive crash scene most likely. You might want to boot from install disk to see if the rest of the machine is happy or not.

Go into the BIOS by turning on the laptop and pressing F2. In there i believe on the main screen you can change the time and date. Do that, save changes and exit and then go into windows and see if it keeps the right time and date.

Click on 'Downloads".
In the next page, select your laptop family ('Satellite') and model (the serial number is of no use) and click 'Go'.
In the new page, you will find the manual under the "User's Guide' tab. Click on the disk icon to save it to your computer.
