Why does the needle always stop down in the fabric?

Needle position does only go up when button "up or down" is pressed

I just took a look at your user's manual (I recommend you go to the Singer site and download it--it's free), and on page 20, it says that the top button of the set of three buttons above the needle shaft is the needle up/down button. If you press it when the machine is NOT sewing, it will reset it to stopping with the needle UP instead of DOWN. In other words, it resets the needle's default position, but you must do that when it isn't sewing anything.

SOURCE: motor is running but not sewing, not pulling the fabric through

either your clutch is disengaged for bobbin winding mode or its got a drive issue internally.

Check that the clutch has been reenaged after winding a bobbin; somtimes this is a button inside the flywheel, a knob inside the flywheel you loosen (towards you) and tighten (away from you) to operate.

Or it may be just flicking the bobbin winding spindle which deactivates the main needle and feed dog drive.

If you don't have a manual to check the clutch instructions for your machine then visit the Singer website as most manuals are there free to download. http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals, type in your 4 digit model number and click "search" then wait for the page, when you see a red and white box "free download" click on that to open the pdf file.

If you are sure the clutch is reengaged, and there is still no movement, then you may need to take it for repair.

I just bought a Singer Quantum 9960. I really need the needle to be in the UP position *automatically* when I stop sewing. How do I get it to stop with the needle in the up position?

C.NEEDLE UP-DOWN / SLOW BUTTON Pressing this button when the machine is stopped, will change the needle position from down to up or from up to down. While sewing, by pressing this button, machine will sew in slow speed. Pressing this button again, the speed will return.
needle-kaa2eddyud1bdlvevsz1mh4m-2-0.png I did not see in the user manual where this function will occur automatically ... the button needs to be pushed manually

I have a Pfaff Creative 1473 and am having problems with needle position.

Hello Eelee
As long as the display indicates the change, the needle will move. The needle is not moving with pressing the needle position button because the needle is too close to the fabric .... if the needle is raise up by turning the fly wheel, it will then move according to the number indicated on the display for needle position.

Please let me know how it goes.

Happy Stitching.

My sewing machine model is B 750 QE. Always starting to sew the lower thread keeps knotting up it drags down the fabric and the cogs come on the screen..So I looked at the instructions and followed the...

1. To solve your knotting problem. Learn to always trap or grasp your thread ends for the first few stitches.

2. When the dogs are down, sometimes you have to grasp and jiggle or turn the hand wheel while re-engaging the feed dogs.

3. It sounds to me as if you aren't making sure that the take up leaver is in the top position before you press the "foot button down" Make sure you press "needle up" before you press foot down. That way the dogs should be in the correct position for you to get the fabric under there and proceed. In the mean time... I would strongly recommend you go back to your dealer and take some lessons. It sounds to me that when you learned to sew... you were not trained the proper procedures.

How do i make the needle stop in the down position instead of the up position? New Home MX3123

You can't - it is only designed to always stop in the up position, then you can manually push the "needle down" button to make the needle go down while you turn a corner. The next model up the 4263 had the "stop down" option. Sorry.

Bobbin jaming up

Clean the bobbin area.

Thread the machine with the presser foot up - always,

Make sure the bobbin thread is feeding clockwise and through the guides on the bobbin case.

Lower the threaded needle down and back up while holding onto the thread end. This will pull the bobbin thread up. Hold onto both threads and pull under the presser foot and to the back of the sewing machine.

Hold on to the thread ends and lower the needle into the fabric, then press the foot pedal.

You may want to use a leader - a folded scrap of fabric that you sew to the edge of and then **** against the fabric you want to sew. Sew off the leader and onto the fabric and this will keep the thread from going down into the machine. You can have a few stitches between the two to make it easy to cut the leader away.

When you stop to adjust the fabric make sure the needle is down to anchor the fabric (turning corners, sewing a curve. etc).

The slightest movement of the fabric when the needle is up will sometimes cause a thread jam.

Sounds like your tension is too tight and the thread is pulling your needle. Also, make your that you needle position button is on center. If it is on left or right it will cause your needle to snap.
