Why the lever won't move from straight stitch to other stitches on my bernina 801?

Hm, am wondering if it is seizing. How long since it has had a thorough clean and oil? Seizing happens when the old oil dries and begins to stick the machine parts.

Yes, take it back where it was serviced. The door is hampering the mechanism.

Use the Stitch Length dial/lever. The higher the number, the farther apart the stitches will be.

Is it a new 830 computerized model or the older 830 Record mechanical?

If it is the 830 Record, it needs oiling--1-2 drops of good quality sewing machine oil (specifically concentrate on the stitch selector lever and oil the metal parts that move against other metal parts) Do NOT oil the cams, plastic gears, any rubber parts, ie belts, bobbin winder wheel.

the gear or cam that makes these stitch or stitches could be worn or damaged, the part would have to be replaced.

Loops on bottom indicate a top thread tension problem.

Make sure needle is the correct size and not bent or broken
Make sure it is threaded properly with the lever UP.

Do a test stitch.

If it still loops below... tighten the top tension and do another test stitch... keep doing this until the stitch is balanced.

BTW... always grasp and hold both threads when starting a seam.

it's very possible that the machine is slightly out of time & needs to be service at a sewing machine shop
is the fabric & thread & needle compatable with each other?
did you use every thread guide when threading the machine?
is the bobbin in correctly?
is the bobbin warped?

Take the machine to an authorized Bernina dealer for service - make sure to fill out the service slip with any problems you are having.
