Sony Bravia 52EX701 picture went out. Now bottom left red light blinks 5x, pause, 5x, etc. when I try turning Tv on, it sounds like TV will work, and the green light shows, but then moments later it will return to red blinking 5x. What does this mean? Am I out of a TV? What is the average life on a Bravia LCD TV?
Most likely it's a capacitor fault.
Google "Capacitor bulge" and then search Youtube for your make and model to see if anyone has done an instructional video. You'll need to be comfortable dismantling the unit and be able to use a soldering iron. If this isn't you then take it to a repair shop.
Sony is, by and large, a reliable brand. The problem is that Sony like most other manufacturers has to buy capacitors from 3rd party suppliers who bid on price. Unfortunately the cost cutting has affected parts quality.
SOURCE: Sony Bravia KDL 46", no picture, standby light blinks 4 times
Since the TV is still receiving power, the problem is going to be with the TV's mainboard. After you unplugged the TV and plugged it back in, you said the power light went out again, so I assume the standby light wasn't flashing again? The flashing standby light is indicating an error code so my suggestion is to contact Sony for service options regardless if there is a warranty or not because service is the only solution to this situation. Don't forget to provide them the error code or 4 flashes repeating.
