My mattress cover is stuck under the agittor un my GE washing machine

Some have a nut that holds agitator in place. If it does, it would be under top removable agitator cap. If there is no nut, agitator snaps off by slipping fingers under agitator at 3 and 9 o’clock positions and pulling up hard and fast.

the agitator has to be pulled out manually the whole pc comes out from the bottom, place a rope or strong string under it and pull up hard. then u can remove the 7/16 nut and take off the agitator coupler or bell housing. , hope this helps

On the older machines, the cap on top of the agitator unscrewed & then the agitator could then be raised.

the agitator should pull straight up, you may have to twist it back and forth as you pull upward. when you put it back on make sure its all the way down and in place, this may be the reason your clothes are getting stuck under it.

I would try to get clothes out, even if destroyed first. Otherwise,
there is a plastic cover cap on the top of the agitator. remove
by unscrewing or prying off. Hold down nut is exposed and remove
carefully, gently and with a ballanced pry up from underneath to raise agitator.

Remove the dispenser cup on the agitator. Then remove the 7/16 bolt that holds the agitator on and lift the agitator out.

You will probably have to remove the agitator, There is a bolt on the top, take this off and lift off the agitator

The most probable thing that is making that noise is a broken motor coupler if it drains but the tub doesn't move or even if the agitator doesn't move (espically the lower section) on the wash cycle the coupler is the problem. theres nothing under your agitator, first take cover off your agitator there should be a small bolt
holding it down, take that bolt out then grab agitator from bottom and pull up it should come off easy.
