Anyone know how to fix a Panasonic Viera 50" Plasma that powers off a couple seconds after powering on?

The display turns on and displays the screen like normal, but then shuts off after a few seconds. I can hear the fans running in the back, but everything shuts down and the power light (red) blinks. If I hold the power button down and release after a few seconds it will power on again, but only for a few seconds. Seems like there is a power overload or a short causing it to malfunction. Anyone have any ideas?

Turned out to be the fans were so clogged with dust that a couple of them weren't able to spin freely. I removed the rear cover, vacuumed out all the dust and cleaned all 4 fans, now it powers on without a problem!

TThe diagnostic circuits is shutting your TV down. In most cases the set will shut it down immediately. Apparently your set hasn't shut completely down yet. When you turn your TV on the diagnostic circuits send a low voltage, low frequency signal through all the circuits and depending on how they come back whether the sets powers up to full power. If a problem is detected it will shut down to protect the other circuits. It sounds like you might have some capacitors going bad on your power board. A capacitor that is going bad would let it come on for a few seconds then the diagnostic circuits would see the capacitor getting further out of tolerance and shut the set down. If you are a DYS type person you might want to lay it flat of it;s face and remove the back. A bad capacitor will be bulged out on the top. are Replace capacitors with the exact uf value and if you can go above the rated voltage but never below., If this isn't the problem then it is probably the main board (the board where your cable hooks up to), There are other things that cab causes for this but I would check the capacitors first.

SOURCE: panasonic viera tv won't turn on. Power light

hello, you have a either your su, sd or sc boards fualty and it is a driver sos1 thats what the manual reads the best thing to do if your not electronically inclined or able to fix it is to get a service manual and make sure it is for your specific model and size you will find what the 7 blink codes mean, on my side i have a 42 in pana the service manual for this set and your is similar so since it is not the same model i cant tell you exactly what the truoble is but your best bet is to find a service manual find the 7 blink fualt then without getting ripped off you will know what the service man needs to do if you dont know or cant replace the parts yourself that is besides having to download firmware from your computer to a sd card and update your set but you need to solve the blinking code first it may solve the entire issue. the tv should come on when you resolve the blink codes or replace the fualty board or boards

Panny TH-42PZ80U Plasma TV No display on Power-up

I had this same exact issue. Panasonic sent a repair tech to my house since I was still under warranty. The tech was able to fix me up in about 10 minutes. He replaced the "brain" or A-board and now I'm back in business. This is NOT a power supply issue. The brain is the circuit board that has all the inputs attached to it (component, hdmi, etc...).

hope this helps!

50PZ800U 50" Panasonic Plasma won't keep displaying the source

Seems like the HDMI section of the plasma is damaged. I would call Panasonic and try to get it serviced under waranty since the display is less then a year old. Just make sure you dont mention anything about a storm or power surge. Let them know only if they ask that you are using a surge protector/power conditioner on all your devices.
