I have a vivitek qumi q2 that runs for about a minute and then shuts off. After the bulb shuts off lights on the top blink, three blinks, short pause, two blinks. Does anyone know what that blink combination means? It is getting very warm and my guess is that it is fan related.
The blink code indicates overheating. I suggest cleaning it.

YES, IT is short protection and 98% chance one of the resistors that protect the convergence circuit is bad.
Good news here:Set is fixable and total parts cost will be under 25 dollars (seller I know on Ebay).
If you want to confirm this: with set unplugged, remove back cover and locate the two heat sinks with fins that have two of the STK-392-110 convergence chips---look at all the light blue resistors in front of them---I bet you find one white in the middle--gone.
Set detects no voltage and a short and shuts down--3 blinks code.

Chips look like this but metal in your set will be silver.
protect resistors in front will be light blue in color and most will be marked 2.2 which means 2.2 ohms is value.
