I have the same type washer and it is about the same age makes the same grinding noise as the above mentioned one. Did this person ever find a solution?

Maytag had problems with the berrings on the transmission . water gets in and the berring goes bad rorring as it spins. Dump it and get a Whirlpool.

Washer may be out of balance, Move closes around in washer and restart

CHECK THE MOTOR COUPLING. IT MAY BE THAT. CALL YOUR REPAIRMAN AND SEE IF HE CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. IF NOT, THEN YOU NEED TO BUY A NEW WASHER. GOOD LUCK.
