Poor draining of water in the ice bin will cause a high rate of ice melting, Remember this is not a freezer but an ice maker. If the machine is making ice OK but it is melting to fast then check to make sure the bin is draining all the melt off and not letting water stand in bin causing ice to melt fast.

NewAir ice maker ice wont stay frozen, hence the ice wont continue to accumulate. Why does this happen?

Question edited for clarity.

It is likely to be three things.

Ambient air temperature is too high.
Insulation on the collection bin has broken down.
The ice isn't cold enough or thick enough when it drops.

The icemaker won't make ice. If we put ice in the compartment it will stay frozen.

Is the ice maker getting water? Are there frozen cubes in the mold but they're not being dumped? If yes to latter question, replace ice maker. If no water is getting to ice maker, you will have to determine if IM is sending voltage to valve. If it is, replace valve. If it's not, replace IM.

Ice maker not making ice

Water solenoid to ice maker not working. Check with ohm meter..should NOT read open
Water line to Ice maker frozen solid. Look at water inlet to ice maker....is ice present in line?
Evaporator coils frozen over with ice. Will cause water line to freeze and unit will slowly thaw.
Try unplugging the unit for several hours and see if it starts to cool normally again. If it cools normally then check heater element and Defrost Thermostat.

Freezer not freezing

Check to see if the fan motor in the freezer is running. Most likely it is not circulating the cold air Also make sure the defrost drain line is clear and has drained out. A frozen sheet of ice will restrict airflow also
