For Canon, you need the ZoomBrowser EX software. It should be on the CD that came with the camera. If you lost the CD, you can download the software for free on the Canon site. I always use the USA site, because they have great support. Just login on the site click on the tab Support and ask for the software, Then you goto the menu, whose Windows 7 and you can download what you want.
Sometimes they need your serial number, but most of the time they not even asking for that.

I'd recommend skipping the camera/cable route entirely, and instead use a USB card reader to download your photos. No software is required, other than possibly drivers for ME. Just plug the card and reader into a USB port, and the card becomes a drive that you simply copy/paste or drag/drop the files onto your hard drive. Also readers are faster, less error prone, and do not waste your camera's batteries during download. They're also extremely inexpensive:

Consider getting a card reader instead of a driver.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.
