a serial port is a 9 pin (DB-9) connector for serial communication (RS232) used by modems, mouse, etc... In older machines you had a DB-25 (25 pin connector) as well usually situated in the back of the computer near the printer port (DB-25 connector) but femail (25 holes insdead of 25 pins)

The serial number may be printed on the motherboard.

The serial number is normally on the box it comes in but it will appear as a decal on the motherboard itself. since the location changes by motherboard type it is virtually impossible to say it is at a specific location. It will be on the chip side of the board and maybe be preceded by S/N. Having said all of that I have never found a situation where the motherboard serial number was used for anything in any application.

may be on the motherboard i am not saying it is definently on it though but there is a different serial for the number of those made so you can`t just look on the intel website but serial is usally on product

It would be unethical to "hijack" a serial-number from an identical motherboard in some friend's computer, or from an identical motherboard on display in some retail store.

There is only one serial port available on Intel D101GGC motherboard.
