I'm not specifically familiar with the 830 model, but all the other Berninas I've dealt with are very similar.

First, disconnect the power cord from the wall socket - safety first!

The housing for the lamp is in the hinged piece at the left (needle) end. It's hinged at the back (two hinges, one above the other like a door) and it's simply a matter of placing the palm of the left hand over the lamp switch with the thumb on the front above the needle and the tips of the fingers at the back of the machine, then opening the housing by twisting it away from the body of the machine from the front. It's held closed with a spring clip, so a little pressure may be required.

Once opened, the lamp and its holder are easily accessible. Remember the lamp is probably a bayonet fitting, so a little pressure to push the bulb into the contact springs and a slight twist in the same direction as you would turn a screw to undo it, and the lamp should come out. Avoid too much pressure on the lamp, as the glass part can part company with the metal base. If it does break, getting the metal base out is a bit of an issue, but it can usually be achieved with a pair of long-nosed pliers. Be very careful not to break the lamp holder - they can become quite brittle.

Having obtained a suitable replacement lamp of the same fitting size and wattage (most are 15 W), fitting it is simply a matter of pushing the lamp base into the holder and twisting it to lock it in place, then closing the housing.

SOURCE: bernina 830, worked fine until today... think it

there is a board inside the foot pedal that goes out sometimes you can check this by flipping the foot pedal upside down and at the top right there is a small hole where you can adjust the speed with a flat head screwdriver but be gentle it breaks easy, if its out you can take it to a bernina dealer and they might have a reapired one or they can send yours off for repair since that part is repair only

SOURCE: old bernina 830 stitching problem: tight

Sounds like you need to adjust the tension. Probably a good idea to oil this older machine before you adjust. Also look for and clean out any lint or debris in bobbin case and around foot area.

SOURCE: I need a Bernina 830 condenser

Do you mean the multi-part condenser that's used across the motor windings, or the one in the foot controller ?

How to remove the top cover of Bernina 830. My machine keeps telling me to rethread. It stitches about 10 stitches then stops

Which Bernina 830 are you referring to? (Yeah, it was crazy of Bernina to use the same numbers to identify different models...). There is the old Bernina 830 Record and the new computerized Bernina 830.

Have you tried rethreading the machine? If so, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot. Verify the thread path is correct.

Needle threaded is stuck in up position will not return 830 bernina

Bernina 830 Record??? Or newer Bernina 830 computerized?

If it's a Record, could very well need a good cleaning and oiling. Older mechanical machines need periodic lube to keep them running smoothly and quietly.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

My Bernina 830 will not switch stitches. It says the number but shows straight stitch and sews straight stitch

Is it a new 830 computerized model or the older 830 Record mechanical?

If it is the 830 Record, it needs oiling--1-2 drops of good quality sewing machine oil (specifically concentrate on the stitch selector lever and oil the metal parts that move against other metal parts) Do NOT oil the cams, plastic gears, any rubber parts, ie belts, bobbin winder wheel.

What to do when foot pedal just stopped working on old Bernina 830

There are a few problems possible. Assuming that there is not a mains (house) power problem, use the following logic to sort out the problem:
1. Do you have a light (assuming that the light bulb is good)? continue to #2.
2. With the machine unthreaded, the presser foot up, and the power cable plugs fully plugged in at the motor and foot control, depress the control to the run position.
Carefully bend and wiggle the cables at the plug locations one at a time. If the motor runs, the cable wires are damaged so you will replace the cable.
3. If available, try a (known good foot control) from another Bernina 830 of that exact vintage.
If the test foot control runs the machine, replace your foot control. Note: If the foot control is a type 213 for very old models, suggest that the control be replaced with a two wire electronic phase type control. (requires the foot control plug end to be cut off and rewired to the new phase controller). These electronic phase controls can be purchased from EBAY. Stay away from the Bernina type 213 control if possible. The type 213 controls have not been available for many years and it is highly likely that these controls are in a used condition, so you will not know if it has been properly adjusted.
If the 830 is a later model machine with the type 232 or 290 foot control and it is determined to be defective, no problem as they can be repaired.
4. If the (known good foot control) still does not work, you can assume that the motor has a problem. Motors for the Bernina 830 are occasionally available on EBAY and other sources.
Note: If the motor brushes have worn out and the commutator has been damaged, the motor is also salvageable.
-------------
Note: Always unplug the machine from the mains power when not in use as per Bernina instructions.

Bernina 830 old style need replacment part -under extention table

The clamping yokes for Bernina sewing tables for models 830 and earlier models were hand fitted parts. Welding this may change the geometry so that the table may not fit at all. Additionally the material is diecast AL, not cast iron, and may or may not accept TIG welding applications.
