very difficult fix, possibly the small white plastic disc inside by the hand wheel is broken
no easy fix.

Does your Bernina have the basting stitch? Could be the basting stitch mechanism has hung up (common for the Berninas from this era). A Bernina technician can fix that for you.

If you can join the Yahoo group "BerninaThirtySomethings," there are a lot of conversations there and documents that explain how to fix the stuck basting stitch. It is rather difficult to explain so that would be the best source. (You will need a Yahoo email account to join the group.) A Bernina technician can release that for you.

Have you consulted the owner's manual, SetUp - pg 92 re screen calibration? Try going through the SetUp function again.

since this is a bernina sewing machine, there could be something
wrong with the computer part of the machine, & needs to be check

it's sounds like the machine needs to be serviced when they start sqeaking or making odd noises

you need to do a tension assembly check.

(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 orsomething in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through thetension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. Itshould pull noticeably harder.)
If it doesn’t work this way then you probably have a pieceof thread or lint stuck inside the tension discs. To remove it, turn thetension to 0 zero and raise the presser foot.Using a small screwdriver, openthe space between the discs and spray with canned or compressed air. The stuffshould come out. Do the tension test again to make sure you got everything andthen try sewing again.
