4 #1 Phillips screwa secure the guard. Remove guard.Take off the distance metal guard. Remove the 5 screws around the motor.
(No need to remove the 4 screwa holding motor to handle.)
Cut Ryobi sticker off.
Carefully remove the motor housing.
There is a small flat looking stem sticking out of the back of the motor. I held it with a small crescent wrench and unscrewed the head.
Its easy to do as you will see.

Once you remove the spool cap and the spool, you cannot remove the head from the motor. It is not a replacement part.

How do you remove the spool on an echo srm-2100 trimmer

Most units like yours has a tap head feed spool. To get to the line spool, you need to push the spool inward and rotate it to release it. The line spool is spring loaded, hence the need to push it in and rotate it to get it to release. You return the spool to the trimmer head housing after loading new line on it the same way, in reverse. Hope this info helps.

Automatic line advance not advancing on Ryobi 18v trimmer

I have a Ryobi Model RY28040 straight shaft line trimmer. In my case I replaced the complete String Head Assembly that includes the String Head Housing, Spring, and Spool and the string still did not advance. I then discovered that the bolt in the Spool Retainer cap (the red cap that attaches the spool to the shaft) was fused and not moving. The bolt needs to be loose inside the cap in order to allow the spool to move in and out by the spring. I loosened the bolt and fastened the spool back onto the shaft. Fired it up and bumped it a few times and the line began to advance. Turns out I probably only needed to replace the Spool Retainer rather than the String Head Assembly.

Replace trimmer line

The steps for replacing line in a single line trimmer head are virtually the same for many trimmer head types, like double line trimmer heads.
1. Remove the Trimmer Head Spool
Removing the spool is the first step in replacing trimmer line in any conventional trimmer head, but trimmer head spools can disassemble in different ways.
The trimmer head pictured above and below disassembles by simply unscrewing the knob around its arbor bolt. Other trimmer heads can use press tab and other twisting styles for disassembly.
2. Insert Trimmer Line and Wind the Line
Single line trimmer heads have just one channel in their spools for winding line. The channel will have a hole in it somewhere that keeps the line in place as it is wound around the spool. Insert one end of the trimmer line in the hole.
Depending on the trimmer head, it might be helpful to bend a small portion of the cutting line at an angle before inserting it in the starter hole. Also, cutting the line at an angle can help this first step on some trimmer heads.
Of course, it is also important to make sure that the replacement line matches the diameter specification of the trimmer head before beginning. Once the line is started correctly in the channel hole, you're ready to wind. Most trimmer heads will indicated the correct winding direction right on the spool somewhere.
It's also important to wind the line carefully, keeping it in neat rows as much as possible. The line will have a much higher chance to feed incorrectly during trimmer use if it suffers from sloppy winding.
3. Snap the Line into its Retaining Notch
A conventional trimmer head will have a retainer on its spool. Snap the end of the trimmer line into the retainer after it is wound around the spool. The retainer will hold the line in place as the spool is replaced in the trimmer head assembly.
4. Replace the Trimmer Head Spool
With the cutting line held in place, the spool is ready to be replaced in the trimmer head assembly.
First feed the extra trimmer line through the trimmer head eyelet. Make sure to release the line from the retainer before completely securing the spool into position.
Replace any knobs, bolts, or other trimmer head pieces removed during disassembly.
Your single line trimmer line is now reloaded, and your trimmer should be ready to get back to work.
Although there are many steps to reloading line the conventional way, a little practice and familiarity with your trimmer will speed the process up a great deal. Once you're up to speed, reloading trimmer line this way can take less than five minutes.

Thanks.

I have the Cub Cadet CC4125. The head for the line is very wasteful.Line will not stay in the spool. I also have Toro with the spool type head on it,and this is more efficicnt. Does Cub Cadet have a spool...

If the head is shot, go to Home Depot and in the garden center, you will find many replacement type heads. They may have one that will fit your machine, because they carry universal replacement string heads. Check them out because they are cheaper than the small engine repair shop.

How do you take off the spool head of a craftman weedeater and replace it with a precut line head?

You can remove the spool by pulling firmly on the tapper button to remove it. The spool will then be exposed and can be replaced. reinstall the button by snapping back into place.

I need to put in new string -- don't know how to install. I need to know what to remove -- do I unscrew something, or do I just stick the string inside the casing?

This trimmer is an "AFS" (Automatic Feed System) trimmer meaning the trimmer uses centrifugal force and a lever that play out trimmer line without you ahving to bump it on the ground. Your trimmer uses .080" diamter line. You can get a replacement spool and lever at Lowe's fairly cheap. I would say get the spool that is already wound rather than trying to buy just the line and re-spooling...that will make this a LOT easier!

What you do to replace the line is place the trimmer on a stable flat surface (like a workbench), raise up the head of the trimmer and follow the steps below:

1. Remove the spool cover (this is the orange cap on the head)

2. Remove the spool, (observe and note the orientation of the spool!)

3. Using a pair of pliers, pull the orange feed lever straight out (observe and note the orientation of the lever!)...do not try to pry it off, you will damage the head!

4. Insert the new lever in the same orientation you noted when you removed the old one.

5. Insert the new spool and line in the same orientation as the old spool.

6. Replace the cap.

Black and Decker has an 800 number you can call if you get stuck, the number is 1-800-544-6986. Good Luck!

How do you add trimmer line to Troy Bilt TB539E Weed Eater?

This model trimmer uses .095" diameter line, your local home improvement store will carry replacement line and it will also carry a replacement spool with the line already spooled on it.

This trimmer is a "bump advance" trimmer meaning you bump the head on the ground while it is spinning to advance line out.

What to do to replace the line is place the trimmer on a stable flat surface (like a workbench), raise up the head if the trimmer and unscrew the cap and CAREFULLY remove the spool...you do not want to lose the spring! Take a look at the spool, it will show the direction to spool the line, spool the line then replace the spool by first putting the spring back on the shaft, then put the end of the line through the hole(s) on the side of the outer head, press the spool in place and screw the cap back on.

Of course you can eliminate about 90% of the headaches by buying a pre-spooled head at your local home improvement store...then you follow the directions above and can skip the spooling part. Cheers!

I need directions to replace string on black and decker cordless 18v grasshog

Go to home depot. look at the floor model and the replacement spools they sell there. Reverse engineer the stringing process or but a pre-loaded spool.
Otherwise,
1. Squeeze the tabs on the side of the head of the unit to remove the spool cover.
2. remove spool.
3. place end of string in small hole in center ring of spool.
4. wide spool with string in the direction of the arrows printed on the spool. DO NOT OVERLOAD!.
5. snap string into notch on spool and cut string leaving 6" exposed.
6. thread 6" of string through hole in side of unit head, replace spool, and replace cover.
7. go cut grass.
