First, the loud screeching sound may indicate its start-up, but if this doesn't occur everytime you start, it may be a sign of water-exposure in the electric circuits in the PC. Thus it could not send it's signals to the PC and start up the computer. My suggestion would be to go and get it fixed at its retail shop as fast as possible.
It sounds like one of three things. Two are pretty unlikely.1. RAM has gone bad. Really unlikely. Usually if this happens the computer will not boot but beep at you.2. Video Card has gone bad. Also unlikely. Usually the computer will sound like normal except you won't have any video. 3. Motherboard has gone bad. Most likely. The Motherboard has either suffered a voltage shock or has blown a component. The only real way to get this repaired to by going through Gateway / Emachines.
Sounds like either your Monitor is giving up or your Graphics card.
I would suspect your monitor. However, do double check the physical connection of the monitor to your PC, that usually does come loose - just tighten that and see how it goes.
