Why do I have code E:0181 after replacing the printhead

This error code means that the yellow drum/developer unit has failed. Your machine has 4 drums, cyan,magenta,yellow and black. At best they are good for about 40,000 copies. You can order one online and it is fairly simple to replace. Let me know if I can help further.

Error code E 020 0181 means that the patch sensor has turned bad or is dirty, to access this try removing eac dev unit and gently unscrew each top so that the patch sensor window is visible. Also, check whether the toner hopper is overfull, it happens sometimes that the toner motor worm gear splits as a result of the hopper becoming packed tight. This may cause the worm gear to split and break if the hopper is 1/2 full or less. You may need to replace toner motor, part number (FH7-1762-030). If the toner motor is fine, then check whether the web solenoid is activating. Clean the web solenoid and ensure free action. This would clear error E020. If the error still not disappears then make sure that the DC controller is fine and the connections from the controller are fine.

E:0181 means Internal printer timeout. Recommend Action to Resolved this issue

1. Remove the printheads and clean the contact points gently, using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Replace the printheads.
2. Remove the ink cartridges and clean the contact points gently, using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Replace the ink cartridges.
3. Switch the printer off.
4. Remove the power cord. Wait 10 seconds, reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
5. If the printer does not resume normal operations, repeat the process three times.

If the error persists, the printer may need repair

I have had two of my Canon plotters give this error.message, I had to manually move the carriage unit and replace the printhead. On one of the plotters the error message returned, on the second plotter I was able to go into service mode where it asked me to replace the printhead. I just went though the motions since the printhead was brand new and I was able to get the plotter to function correctly.

SPECIFICALLY...you need to replace the Black drum unit.

E020-01XX(Yellow drum)
E020-02XX(Magenta drum)
E020-03XX(cyan drum)
E020-04XX(Black drum)
