If it is a hydrostatic transmission or automatic type transmission and it moves when cold yet bothers when warm or hot . I would almost bet your problem is within the transmission itself. If by chance it does have a fluid level cap or dipstick check to see if the fluid smells burnt or is discolored. Many of these transmission are a sealed unit not allowing the fluid to be checked. As suggested earlier make sure the transmission drive belt is in fact tight and not warn . A good test is once it begins to bother try to climb a small hill . If it slows down a lot chances are you are dealing with the transmission .Which can get quite pricey.

SOURCE: mower quits when engaging mower deck of husqvarna yth 2348

Try putting a jumper wire on the wire going from the engine to the seat. Take that plug and put a wire from one side to the other. Be careful not to cut your feet off when engaging deck.

SOURCE: mower stopped moving

If this is a manual transmission, check the drive belt from the engine back to the transmission. With the clutch pedal up (engaged) there should be no slack in the belt.

If it is a hydrostatic drive, check the drive belt and make sure it is tight. Check the transmission fluid level and make sure it is full. Refer to your owners manual as it will describe the fluid check proceedure.
Good luck, let me know.

What causes blades to stop in low setting?

Scott, sounds like belt or pulleys could be worn out, also see if your pulley tension spring is still on the tensioner pulley arm if your machine is equipped.

My MTD Yard Machine will not pull off unless it is in 4th gear or higher. And slowes down when i start to cut the grass. What is going on?

The problem is most likely the gear box. I would take it to a repair shop, unless the machine is very old, then just replace it. The belt would most likely be the cause of the slowing down when mowing and should be replace when the gear box is repaired.

Hi, remove the battery and battery support tray and clean all debris from around the hydrostatic drive, fan and cooling fins. Your problem is caused by the hydrostatic drive overheating. Hope this helps, regards Phil

The blades stop turning under a heavy load on my Craftsman 42" mower deck. Is there an adjustment that can be made?

"the adjustment" is to slow down in high grass areas. alternatively mow more often so the grass does not get so high between mowings

Riding mower will barely move

Sounds like it time for a tuneup. Air filter changed, Spark plugs replace and oil changed, plus sharpen the blades while you are at it.
