Hello emma.
Has the printer always worked fine from that same location or was the printer in another room.If it was in another room then you might have to either move the printer back or bring the wireless router closer.
Step 2.
If the printer has always worked fine from that same position then it might not be able to connect to the wireless access point.
You either need to switch off the router /wireless access point and printer at the same time for about 1min and then try again.
Try to switch off the printer first and unplug from mains for 5 min and see if this solves the problem if not then step 2 is required.

if your not able to scan from the scan option on the printer itself you can go to start menu->devixces and printers. one left click on the printer and there should be a menu on the top with the option to start scan.

The Dell Fax Solutions Software allows you to:

View fax history.
Click View full activity log to see or print a detailed list of all fax activity.

Create a fax report.
Click Print activity report to see a detailed report of all fax activity. Click the Print icon to print your activity report.

To access the Dell Fax Solutions Software:

1. In Windows Vista:
   

   1. Click Start® Programs.
      

   2. Click Dell Printers.
      

   3. Click Dell V505.
      

   In Windows XP and 2000:
   Click Start® Programs or All Programs® Dell Printers® Dell V505.
   

2. Click Dell Fax Solutions.
   The Dell Fax Solutions Software dialog box opens.

Go online, google or Dell website, type in your Dell V505 drivers, download those driver and carefully install them to your computer while your printer is attached to the computer and ON. verify if they installed succesfully, test print from your computer to see if it works.

Try to check the USB in the device manager if did not disable. To goto device manager right click the My Computer on the screen and click properties. Dialogue box appears click on the Hardware and click Device Manager. Another dialogue box appear then just see at the bottom of the dialogue box if the Universal Serial Bus Controllers are did not have question mark (?) with yellow color. If don't have mark like that try to change your USB cable then insert it again to your printer. But if they have a mark like that you need to right click the Universal Serial Bus Controllers and click Update driver.
