you cannot delete them:
there are some core apps belonging to the iOS system and cannot be deleted like 'clock', 'calendar', 'contacts', 'facebook' etc.
- however you may create a folder (unwanted apps) and put them there, then they are at least out of sight and use less desktop space.....

Airplane mode turns off 3G and wireless etc. Good for when you are on an airplane or when you are out of range and wish to save battery. Eg. get on a airplane activate airplane mode, switch off device, plane takes off, then when the seatbelt sign comes off turn device on, and play angry birds or watch a movie without any risk of interfering with plane. Airdrop is a public folder, that allows you to share images, vids and links via wireless. Similar to Bump, it is less dorkier than having 2 phones have to "kiss". lockable to no airdrop contacts or everyone.
