Your plasma screen is made up of 1080 verticle lines and now a few of these lines are not working. This is the screen itself and needs replacing.

This is a convergence problem that will continue to get worse. I repaired a few of these recently and found that the main problem was poor/broken solder connections at the flyback transformer. Please note that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged.

That being said, the flyback needs to be resoldered and the pico fuses close to it need to be checked and replaced should they be open.

The parts cost for this (even when replacing the 3 pico fuses) should not exceed $10.

This is caused by dead pixel sensors. There are hundreds of pixel sensors at the edges of the screen, when they go out it will cause a line varying in size depending on the amount of sensors that go out, and the line can vary in color, red, blue, green, white, and black. Unfortunately, the only fix for this is to replace the screen.

I have the same Hitachi CP-S860 and have found the problem is with the convergence on the left and right sides of the picture. The one I am working on has a bad ghosting problem also - you can really see the ghosting when the MENU is on the screen. The center convergence is OK. Following Pics show Circle / Cross pattern - 1st pic the red, green and blue are turned on - 2nd pic shows green and blue on only. I do not have the service manual for this set so I do not know the convergence procedure on this one. I have mostly been repairing NEC, Sanyo, Panasonic and Christie LCD & DLP Projectors.
