The battery is fully charged and the charger is in good condition with no shorts. I have had the laptop for a few years and have not had a problem with it before.

Sound like the battery. Take the battery out and there should be a power meter on it, press it, if there are three lights that flash, the battery is shot. Not all batteries will flash if they are worn out, but they are supposed to. Try a new battery, I believe this will coorect the issue.

in these case u have to take one star screwdriver. carefully remove all screws n check the battery slot is it broken. if it is , den u have to change the slot.its just the connections problem. no prob with board. so dont worry ur works again.

Just call Dell, don't take it back to Best Buy or anything (that's where I got my Inspiron 1565). They will put you through a couple troubleshooting items and decide whether it's the AC adapter went bad or if they have to replace your motherboard. It's all free since they have a 1yr hardware warranty.

When was the last time you used it, and were there any problems? To find the solution to this problem is a matter of elimination. You should check the following:
Step 1 - Power
- Try an alternative power adapter
- Try plugging in your laptop to an alternative power supply
WARNING - BEFORE PROCEEDING, PLEASE FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!
1. REMOVE THE POWER ADAPTER FROM YOUR LAPTOP
2. REMOVE ALL PERIPHERALS
3. WEAR A WRIST-GROUNDING STRAP, AND CONNECT IT TO AN UNPAINTED, METAL SURFACE. IF ONE IS NOT AVAILABLE, TOUCH AN UNPAINTED METAL SURFACE TO DISCHARGE ANY STATIC FROM YOUR BODY
Step 2 - Remove and reset basic hardware items
Remove and reseat the items mentioned below in the order they're mentioned:
- AC adapter
- Battery
- Memory
- Hard drive
