Here is a way to format your C: drive with Windows CD
Boot from windows CD/DVD
You can see "Press any key to boot from CD.." Just press Space bar or any ther key you want.Now you can see Blue screen with "Windows Setup" text on top of screen.
Wait until you see "Windows XP xxx Setup" (the xxx is where you can see edition name for: Professional")
Use your keyboard up and down arrow key to select partition you want format or partitioned space to create a partition and than press Letter C: from your keyboard.
Now enter any amount you want and press Enter key from your keyboard and than select "format the partition using the NTFS file system and press Enter key from your keyboard.Now the partition is created and now choose C: and press Enter from keyboard to start Windows installation.
Go to My Computer and then right click on the drive and click FORMAT. This will erase Everything on your hard drive. You will have to reinstall windows XP operating system with your cdrom.

Win 7 doesn't recognize the format of XP drive. Put the Click drive on an XP machine on the network and copy files you need then format on Win 7 machine.

This will erase everything on the E Drive
1. Go To my computer
2. Locate E drive
3. Put the mouse over E drive
4. Right click
5.Choose Format
6.Check Quick Format
7.Now you have a empty Drive
it may be because of different format of your harddisc
window xp recognise only FAT and NTFS format
format your harddisc with these two format then try to install xp
take a bootable xp cd boot ur laptop with it and when it goes to the option where to install Xp give option c then it will ask you to format the drive then format the drive
