Try this procedure: Press TOOLS, the spanner symbol on the page with WHERE TO and VIEW MAP Press SETTINGS, the spanner symbol, or LOCALE, the blue symbol on models that don't have a settings menu Press LANGUAGE the lips symbolThis will bring you to a page with 3 items on it; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD Press VOICE and select an English speaking voice Press TEXT LANGUAGE and select English or American English if you're in the USA

Press the ans on/off button on the base to turn answering machine on. Message indicator should light up. Now press and hold the skip button for 2 seconds. This will change the language back to english. Repeat the steps if you want to go back to the other language.

On the GE models believe itor not extremely simple: press and hold the "skip" button on the base until desired language is spoken. Had the same problem and after searching the web and being on hold for 45 minutes, I could't believe how easy the answer was!
