Hi,

I'm sorry, but there are no published serial number year of manufacture information for the Model 1400. It was first introduced in 1964 and was offered in 12, 16 or 20 gauge with 26", 28" or 30" vent rib barrels. This Model was discontinued in 1981.

The new Model 1400 was introduced in 1989, was chambered for 12 or 20 gauge with either a 22" or 28" vent rib barrel.

The Model 1400 Ranger is a utility grade gun in 12 or 20 gauge, a 28" vent rib barrel, 24" slug barrel with rifle sights or a two barrel set. It was introduced in 1983.

The Model 1400 Quail Unlimited was introduced in 1993. It has a compact engraved receiver with a 26" vent rib barrel and checkered walnut stock.

The Model 1400 Ranger Deer Combo is a 12 gauge only with a 22" smooth barrel and a 28"vent rib with 3 win chokes.

Values for all are : excellent-$350, very good-$300, good-$250, fair-$200, poor-$125

Add 35% for the Plastic stock on the first model and 20% for 2 barrel sets.

Sorry I couldn't give you the year. The only way to get it is a factory letter from Winchester which will cost about $100.
I hope this information has helped you. If so then would you leave some good feedback for me.

Thanks,

Marty

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following is Wisner's rendition & info on the subject.
The difference in the old firing pin and the new one is as follows. The old replaced
style, was totally lathe tuned (round). While the new recall style is similar in lathe
turning on the front and back, but in the front midsection it has two flats milled, one
on each side. This makes the center section stronger. Also replaced is the bolt sleeve
lock pin (firing pin guide) which was made to accommodate this different shaped firing
pin
Part number for the new parts are, firing pin =1391ND, bolt sleeve locking pin =1491ND
The word was at the time this recall was in process was that if the firing pin would
break at the mid section and still remain in the gun as two pieces, the possibility of a
premature discharge before the bolt was locked was possible. This apparently was caused
by the firing pin tip (now not having a retracting spring) to be stuck forward, and
thereby slam-firing upon chambering.
The responsibility for the recall apparently was on Olin, as they were the parent company
at time of manufacture. Olin set up regional recall centers at three established US
gunshops. There was a manufacturing delay in the replacement firing pins, and a backlog
occurred, also some collectors did not like the idea of shipping their guns long
distances. Olin then also authorized other gunshops to make the required alterations.
Upon completion of the recall, the shops were to test fire the firearm and to stamp an
assigned letter on the inside top of the receiver as seen thru the magazine well with the
bolt retracted. The letter “B” represented Bolsa Gunsmithing, “L” was Lefever, and “N”
was for Nu-line Guns. The letter “X” apparently was for all the other independent shops.
However this identification information did not get communicated to some of the smaller
shops at the start of the project. The only way to tell if the gun as been modified, if
the ”letter” is not present, is to take the barrel & action out of the stock, remove the
trigger guard assembly and the try to rotate the firing pin by twisting it. If it does
NOT rotate, then the firing pin recall HAS been performed.

SOURCE: I have a Winchester 1400 that fails to eject low

Hello Ron,

Without looking at the gun it is hard to diagnose, but what runs across my mind first is at the font of the magazine tube there should be a valve cap assembly. The valve cap assembly is basically a plunger and a spring, which vents extra gasses away from the mechanism. It sounds to me that either the spring in the assembly has either become weak or more likely fouled with carbon deposits which is causing it to stick open somewhere and venting a little too much gas for the low power shells to work the mechanism.

Unfortunately, as you probably already know, there doesn’t seem to be a way of disassembling the valve cap assembly to clean it. So, every once in a while I take the valve cap off of mine and submerge it into a product called Kroil, which is a very fine penetrating oil, you can get Kroil at www.midwayusa.com or some gun shops carry it. Soaking it always gets some stuff out of it for me. You could probably also use gun scrubber, however I just choose not to. Anyway, good luck with everything.

Winchester Model 62 Pump Action Rifles The ultimate gallery gun

Several models of Winchester 62 pump action rifles. Top to bottom: 1906, 20-inch round barrel; 1890 octagonal barrel; prewar M62 with scope; postwar M62A.
Winchester Model 62 left side receiver. The huge "Winchester" rollmark may mean its a gallery gun.
No less than six generations of the Model 62 were made from 1932 until 1958. Three of these are pre-WWII while the other three are post-1945. The easiest way to tell postwar versions is that they have a 17-groove 8.75-inch foregrip while prewar versions have a 5.75-inch 10-groove grip. After 1940, the Model was modified with an improved hammer spring and dubbed the 62A, so if you see a 62A mark on your Winchester pump rifle, that is an easy way to tell that it was made after that year. The value of standard Model 62/62As start at about $300 for shooter grade guns and go as high as $1000.

Winchester Model 270 22 pump. Ser #177385 When was it made

Hard to say exactly , the serial numbers were stamped un sequentially. The first production was in 1963. Winchester continued production into the early 1970s . I have one .
They hold 16 in the mag and one in the pipe . Value probably
200 - 350 $ depepending on condition . Hope this was helpful . As most guns are the value is based on condition unless rare in sequential serial numbers . A fine gun but as with .22 cals
cleaning should be performed after 50 to 75 rounds .

When was my winchester model 70 made, serial number G2464078

My book only goes up to 92 on that model, G2037985, but that gun averaged approx 50,000 a year production. There are 426,000 between that 92 ser and yours so that would be approx 8 1/2 years. Yours would be 1999-2001. Sorry I can't be more exact.

What year was this 1400 ranger s n1123390 manufactured?

Due to records being patchy the n prefix is post 1968
Serial numbers started at 100000 in 1980 750000 had been made , just over 1250000 were made by 1992 so 1985-86 is the year of your gun approx
