Why does my over the range microwave keep running unless I open the door?
Is it actually heating or just making noise and acting like it's heating? (put a cup of water inside and close the door.) IF it's actually heating, then you have a shorted relay on the main control board, and you will have to replace the board. IF it's just making noise like it's working, but it's not heating, then the problem is 1 of the door switches is not working right (it's either stuck open or stuck closed).

SOURCE: Over the range microwave
I have the R-1460 in the same series with the identical symptoms. After reading MicrowaveSvc's solution I started taking apart to view the door switches and found the upper door switch to be the problem, but not a switch failure a support failure. A small bottom plastic support post that holds the switch in place was broken (probably from repeated use/abuse) allowing the switch to move when the door hooks were engaged, thus not actuating the button switch. Since the problem was mechanical rather than an electrical bad switch, I made a small support arm for the switch from an old plastic mechanical pencil and glued it in place to hold the switch in its correct position. Problem solved, microwave works! Thanks to MicrowaveSvc's description of door switches.

this is potentially a major design fault and could be dangerous. contact the manufacturer immediately.there are other post on the site saying the same

Hi firstly to see if it is producing energy, buy some 5mm light emitting diodes from an electronics store. cut off the leads close to the plastic body.
place in microwave and put on cook for max 10 secs, if the led's light up you have microwave energy, shut off the oven as soon as they glow otherwise you end up with a mess.
If you have energy then your problem is most probably the door interlock micro switches which after time do not operate properly. let me know the results and we can go further.

Good way to cook yourself! It has to be a stuck door interlock switch--the case needs to be removed to get at the switch. It could be either the mechanism that operates the switch or the switch itself is bad. The switch normally makes a click when the button is pressed. Unplug the unit when the case is removed.
