Part number #243614-00.
It's a microswitch made by Honeywell that costs about 5 bucks plus shipping.
The attached file has the schematic and parts list.
The CST2000 is well worth spending a few bucks to keep it going. Finding a local B&D authorized service center near you will even save you the shipping as they can order it for you.
Every other component is pretty dependable- the motor, battery, wiring, charging system, spool system- all built to last.
Only down side is you really only get 20 to 25 minutes of hard weedwhacking before you need to recharge. Of course, it's time for a cold beer in the pool by then.

My Black and decker cordless trimmer is not quite out of juice but it is not cutting anymore. can i recharge it now or do i have to wait until the battery is completely dead?

You can recharge the battery at any time. I usuly use mine then when done using it I put it back on the charger so I know it will be charged the next time I need it.

CST2000 can't get the battery off when pushing the two release buttons.

Black & Decker didn't make it easy to remove the battery pack. You have to push both buttons in at the same time, while pushing the battery pack forward. It takes a little while to get good at it -- you have to hold onto the trimmer with the same hand that's pushing the buttons in, while pushing the head forward with the other hand.

If you're only taking the head off to charge the battery, you can charge it while it's still attached. The hole for the adapter is on the back of the head, so you can plug it in while it's attached to the trimmer.

Hope that helps!

I have a Black & Decker electric trimmer. Do I change the guard around or leave it where it is to do trimming? It is on the bottom--should it be on the top and how do I switch it?

You are talking about a string tirmmer, right? Leave the guard where it is; it's there to protect your feet and legs from getting hit with twigs, rocks...anything the trimmer might kick up.

If you are using it as an edger you can keep the guard where it is, just flip the trimmer to do the edging.
