If this is a Windows password, then you can ask local laptop tech to erase the password. Usually it cost $25 - $50. If this is a BIOS password, then you need to contact laptop manufacturer.

Please be more specific: is it bios or windows password? For windows, the simplest things to try are:
1. check CAPS
2. check NUMLOCK to be off
3. restart your device and try logging again.
4. try user: Administrator and password blank (if you are lucky) then change/clear your password
4. use external boot device and boot an utility to help you reset/clear windows password (Hirens boot or other tools)

In the interest of theft provention, this info is not easily attained if it is the bios password

You'll have to take out the battery that powers the CPU inside the computer. This battery runs the memory and data processing and without it, it will reset all data stored to "nothing" including password.

Is software for this, other than that format.
