Oh, there has got to be a reason. Is the needle stuck down, did you take the bobbin case out? Is the belt tight enough to move the wheel? need more info

Force the hand wheel in the normal direction of travel. You can't break it. The mechanism has just locked up. Once it is free, remove the needle and run it full speed for 20 seconds.
The tip given to me by my dry cleaner / seamstress. It happened to one of her 4 industrial machines. She said she needed a strong man and that was me.
possibly seizing up from lack of lubrication or fluff jamming the workings
have it serviced by a service centre ( most any sewing service centre will be able to to the job unless it is still under warranty)
Hello Christine, I think you do have a thread stuck between the rotary hook and the bobbin case carrier. Remove the bobbin case and bobbin. You will need to remove two small slotted head screws and remove the half circle locking ring that holds the bobbin case carrier in place. Try to wiggle the bobbin case carrier one way and than the other until it comes out of the rotary hook assembly. Don't pry too hard or you might damage the carrier and/or rotary hook assembly. Once removed, I think you will find the thread that is causing the lock up situation . Before reassembling, place a drop of oil on the bearing surfaces between the carrier and rotary hook assembly and also between the locking ring and the carrier.
I was sewing a headliner for a car and this happened. It's jammed. Unplug the machine, remove the item being sewn. By hand, give less than quarter turns back and forth on nthe large wheel that holds the belt. Try to work it free. Check inside the bobbin compartment as well for anything that may have jammed in there, it's stuck on something that came off, you just have to find it and gently remove the remnant. Keep working that wheel forward and reverse by hand gently. I hope this helps! It did for me!
You need to take the bobbin case and the raceway out to seek out the piece of jammed thread, before you do that force the balance wheel backwards that may free it off.
A jammed machine is caused by thread being caught in the hook. Remove the upper thread and the bobbin case, turn the hand wheel towards you (counterclockwise) by hand and remove any thread in the bobbin case area. *Always turn the hand wheel towards you. Turning the hand wheel away from you (clockwise) can cause the machines timing to become unaligned and jam your machine. Also, always make sure the presser foot is in the down position before you start sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will jam your machine in the bobbin case.
Thread is caught in the hook...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case...turn the hand wheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands. Good Luck
