SOURCE: wiring 4 wird dryer plug to 3 wire 10/3 for 220 welder

the four wire plug seperates the neutral and ground. the three wire just piggybacks the ground to the neutral. so just get a three wire cord that fits the 220 plug on the generator and install it on your dryer make sure to attach the ground correctly for your three wire setup

SOURCE: Kenmore Dryer model 86683100. I need to change

Yeah, red and black go to the outside terminals, white in the center and green goes to the cabinet. What I do is hook up the red, white and black, then I place the green between the terminal block cover and the frame and screw it in tight.

I needed to replace the pull switch, but in doing so the capacitor was disconnected and I do not know where the wires go. It's a five wire, 2 gray,1 green, 1 red, one brown. It's marked 10mfd/5mfd/250vac....

1 - gray
2 - brown
3 - green
L - should be black
The other gray should be connected by wire nut to the other grey to reversing switch.

Also, you should have two wires, white & black w/ white stripe, at bottom of fan to hook up light if needed.

MY HUNTER ORIGINAL RUNS THRU AN ORDINARY WALL SWITCH. IT HAS HI AND LO SPEEDS ON THE HOUSING, BUT EVEN LO SPEED IS A BIT TOO FAST AT TIMES... HOW CAN I CONTROL THE SPEED THRU FULL RANGE... A RHEOSTAT...

Jim,

You have a special fan there. Hunter Originals are my specialty.

There are two ways to accomplish a slower speed with this fan.

1. A wall variable speed control, solid state, rated for 3 or more amps, regular fan controls will not work as your fan draws 2.5amps on high, not even new ones that are labeled for the Original.

2. Retrofit the fan to make it a three speed. If you're good with wiring, it's really simple. What you need is, a standard 3 speed pull chain switch, not a double pole one like cheaper/new fans have that use capacitor speed control, we are using cap. speed control, but not the same way they do. So you want an "SP3T" switch. You also need an 9 10 or 11 or 12 MFD capacitor (depending on how fast you want your low to be 8 is 20rpm, 11 is 75 approximately). You will remove the switch cap to your fan, and you will find your switch has a black, blue and red wire connected to it. Remove all wires, attach the black to L on your new switch, attach blue to 1, then you need 2 extra pieces of wire. Stick one wire in 2 and the second wire in 3. Now, get your capacitor and hook one side of it to the red wire and position 2, then hook the other side to the wire you put in position three.

Remember to get the Single pole switch for non capacitor speed control fans, if you get the double pole, both winding sets in your fan will be activated, which will draw double current and burn your motor out.

Also, are you aware that your fan uses oil (like an engine) ? and is not permanently lubricated?

Ah.

A simple Capacitor based speed control. How many places do you have to put wires on your switch? You may have mis-wired the switch, or you have the wrong switch.

How it all works is... When you turn the fan to High, or position 1 on the switch (there's L 1 2 and 3) the power goes from 1, to the capacitor, but does not go through the capacitor, but instead goes through the second (probably gray) wire directly to the reversing switch in the switch housing. When you switch to medium (or 2) both 2 and 3 positions on the switch are supposed to be sending power through both capacitors inside of the black box. Basically, you have two capacitors, when you go to medium, both are wired in parallel to each other, but on low, only one is in the circuit. Basically, the switch you have, or have mis-wired, is putting only one capacitor in the circuit at the time on medium and low positions.

Also, do not worry, so long as you only mess with these 4 wires, you cannot blow anything up, However! When you disconnect power from the fan, BE SURE that the fan is "On" when you turn the power off to ensure the capacitor discharges as you can get a very very nasty shock from the bare wires.

The reverse switch on my Hampton Bay ceiling fan didn't work. I cut the 6 wires; 1 white, 1 gray, 2 pink, 2 yellow. Here's what I did. Removed reverse switch. Had 6 wires white, gray, 2 yellow, 2 pink. Connected gray to yellow, connected white to pink and fan runs fine. Is this OK? I do not need to reverse fan. It's been running for 1 hour now with no problems. Don S.

Receiver 85112-04 need a replacement for hunter fan remote receiver which is housed in the based of the fan in ceiling.

I realize that this is an old post. However, the best solution is to replace the receiver with 3 or 4 speed wire harness, which includes the capacitor, fan speed switch, forward/reverse switch and female plug for $15 as of today's writing. While you may be able to find a 85112-04 replacement receiver, I found them to be an expensive solution at $80. In addition, there is no telling how long the replacement receiver would last. To purchase a 4 speed wire harness for this Hunter fan, they can be ordered from
Casablanca. Casablanca you say? Yes! Casablanca is a subsidiary of Hunter Fans. This 4 speed wire harness, part number K016501H01, is standard in many Hunter and Casablanca fans. Hopefully this will help someone looking for a low-cost solution to replacing the fan. Link below:

Hunter ceiling fan-just installed -possible speed control problem

Sounds like the fan is defective. All internal wiring from the switch to the motor is factory installed. The fan has power going to it. Just to make sure, double check the wiring from the ceiling fixture to the fan.
Problem could be a faulty switch on the fan or faulty motor(bad winding for med. speed). Try reverse switch on the fan to operate the opposite direction and see if medium speed works. If medium does work in opposite direction, it pretty much points to a defective fan. In any case, unless you discover that the ceiling wires were reversed going into the fan, I'd say new fan to the returns dept.
