Standby mode is when the phone is not on a call, you're not dialing one, and you're not doing anything with the menus. It's standing by, waiting for you to call or for someone to call you.

If the phone is in silent mode, see "Silent Mode" beginning on page 10. If the handset volume is turned down, press up-arrow while in standby mode. If the base volume is turned down, press "+" while in standby mode.
Since you neglected to specify the model of your Uniden DECT 6.0 phone I can't be certain, but on many models you press the up-arrow button on the handset while the phone is in standby mode to raise the ringer volume.
Select the model of your phone from the list beginning here to download a copy of the manual for the exact instructions.
In standby mode, press the up-arrow button to raise the volume. See page 4 of the manual. If the phone is in silent mode, see the instructions beginning on page 9.
With the phone in standby, try pressing and holding the # key on the handset for 5+ seconds. This toggles the silent mode for the D1660 between "always on" and off. If this doesn't help, check the Ringer volume. (This can be set by pressing the volume + button with the phone in standby on some models.)
If this doesn't work, please add a comment with the specific model Uniden DECT 6.0 phone that you have? There are several. Manuals for many Uniden DECT phones are available from their customer support site: http://www.uniden.com/bin/venda?ex=co_disp-view&bsref=uniden&scat=dectphones_mnl . The manuals are in alphabetical and numerical order.
